Boot Striker/Latch

Post by Skezza »

Hey,

Been a while, so the 206CC has been running okay....ish, still needs those bloody sparkies putting in and probably a hole patching in the exhaust but other than that, touchwood, it's okay.

Anyway, the boot has always beeped occasionally and flagged an indicator on the dash. My missus isn't very good at letting me look at her car (hence the sparkies are still in the box waiting to go in), but supposedly the beeping got worse then all of a sudden it was beeping like crazy and the car wouldn't lock. Turns out (now that I've actually been able to look) that one of the torx screws holding the 'striker' (as it's called on the diagrams) in place had fallen out. Slowly but surely, the vibrations had caused the entire mechanism to sheer in half. Yay.

Anyway, after driving home with the bootlid closed (but unlatched), I removed it and was just about able to get it to hold together with some JB-Weld. Not convinced it'll hold out long term, but might do a job for 12 months or 2 weeks..... I could do with finding another of those but nowhere seems to sell them online. Peugeot only part?

However, my biggest question is what is this part? I removed it so I could access where it had sheered and now I can't actually get it back onto the mechanism? Is it a dampener or something? How necessary is it?

It is the part just above the torx screw indicated by number 3?

For anyone wondering, they go on with brute force and idiocy. Just push them down as seen on the diagram and they eventually go in.

Also, I've loctited that bolt as it came out and sheered off again. This time I've used a shed load of epoxy, made it nice and strong and I've bolted it using loctite blue. Job done.

What a lucky find on the web, my 206 has the same problem, but someone said it may need a new conrol panel costing £600+ . The roof wont fold down either

Update. Several months later. Still super solid.
