Do you mean the red light for the alarm? Don't think that is the immobiliser ... That's a separate item. You need to get it on a diagnostic system preferably PP2000 to check the bsi unit as well as the ecu.

Or get the seller to take it back as not fit for purpose ...

But you also didn't answer my question about the key ... Have you opened it?

Well, what did you expect? That we would be able to tell you why your car would not start with absolutely no information about symptoms, or that when we ask questions to try to grope our way to some understanding of what may be happening (or not happening), we don't really need the answers, so it's OK to ignore them

OK. Work your way through this in no particular order. Some more likely than others

Crank pos sensor
Coil pack
Throttle body
Injectors
Wiring fault
Inlet leak
Cambelt broken slipped
MAF
Immobiliser
Key transponder or receiver
BSI
ECU
Fuel pump
Fuel pipe
blocked or split fuel filter
Pressure reg
Insufficient antifreeze causing waterpump to freeze

Then you have mechanical issues like
Head gasket
burnt valves
oil thickening
Tappets pumped up
Fouled plugs
waterlogged airfilter
failing battery
failing starter
ETC: ETC:

If you were a bit more forthcoming with your replies, we could have narrowed it down or ruled things out.

You probably won't be reading this but Good luck.
Cheers Col.

That's why I was asking if he used a different key as I suspected a transponder issue. He may well have dropped the chip, after all it's small enough. Who knows?

I think the answer they wanted was "Ok I am free on Friday I will come round to your house and fix it".

Simplest test is put key in ignition wuthout turning it on and open driver's door ... If it blerps, key has chip. If it doesn't ...
