Side lights not turning on

Post by Stavrosc »

Hello , kind of late to be asking but i'm facing a similar issue as the one described here i believe
http://www. peugeot206cc. co. uk/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=14300
(remove gap^s, not authori^se^d )
Wondering if this one got resolved eventually and how.

my issue went as follows.
1.Flat battery
2.Wired it and drivers side lights went on without key to ignition.
Probably caused my battery drainage.
2.Unplugged it till i get it shorted.
3.A bit later, right side lights stuck on.
4.Played with chalk a bit and they aren't turning on at all after that.
5.I' ve found a blown bulp from sidelights and replaced it (the one that was first stuck), made no difference
6.Everything else works perfectly, including the rest of the chalk -1rst "click" functions.

Car is at the local electrician atm.
We tried the following so far.
1.Fuse check both engine and on bsi.
2.A working com 2000
3.Proper BSI reset
4.Another engine fuse box.
5.Next gonna be a BSI check.

Kind of driving me crazy, so any input / ideas / Suspission would be very appreciated. Nearest peugeot is gonna chew me up if end up going there :(

Thanks in advance.
*a. I ve read through the majority of posts , gonna try a new battery tomorrow , mine is definitely more than 3 years old.
*b. Have angel eyes fit on, they are led rings parallel to side lights wiring, they have been working fine for 2 years now, could the led have caused any problem ?
I love my cc .

Thanks for the reply.honestly!
apologies for being unclear.
1. By "Wired it" i meant ,my battery was flat, i measured it at 2v and i connected it to my brothers Clio battery via jump cables to start the engine.
2. Yes Sorted* sorry . Until next morning that i was gonna get to the Car Electrician.
3. Stalk, sorry again. By Played i meant" i activated- deactivated "the switch a few times. The connected side light at this point was stuck on, after this it wasn't working. At this point i noticed my Rear Side lights were not working as well.
Will disconnect the led tomorrow early in the morning
Thank you

I would like to add in case it might help
Its 206 cc 1.6 16 v , first license in Greece at 2002, & date on com 2000 was 2001.
A few days prior to this problem my drivers side Dipped Beam bulp went bad and i replaced it. It was working fine.
The day before the issue i had the car washed (just outside) and went to sleep, i found the flat battery around 12 hours after i parked it.

Thanks for clearing that up.
If the battery went flat and has not fully recovered it can cause weird electrical faults. Search the many posts on here where problems have been sorted by fitting a new battery.

PS you need to be careful jump starting these cars. Much safer to use a battery charger.
Cheers Col.

Todays Update.

A Citroen Tech came by to check on the BSI and he told me that it doesn't have any errors logged and that it appears to be working fine.He said before i tell you to replace a BSI i got to check all wiring more closely to be 100 % sure.
They made a thorough check for corrosion on wiring around the doors, engine and on the BSI. We also had the LED disconnected.
I told him to check if it was the battery, his opinion was that it couldn't be the source of the problem.
So he jump plugged it on the charger , but all the same, so we didn't actually try a new one.
I'm waiting until Monday , a more experienced tech will come by to check the BSI again.

Any advice on how to proceed ?I have found a company here in the city that fixes and reprograms BSI, i am thinking to go by them.
Thanks,
Stavros

Edit:To clarify they checked for signs of corrosion inside BSI aswell

So did you fit a brand new battery of the correct specification and height, or not? A weak or dying battery nearing the end of its life, or one of an incorrect height can cause all sorts of spurious faults on the 206cc.

No we didn't try a new battery sadly, i told the electrician it could be the source of the problem but he didn't took me seriously i think, for him it sufficed that we tried with the charger connected to write-off the possibility of a battery issue.
So i can insist as a last resort. Ill have the bsi checked by another guy also tomorrow and see if it returns no errors.
I could also give it a go with a battery from my brothers clio 05 , its almost new but i think its different height.
Im getting the vibe that techs here feel kind of alienated with BSI cars. Its not a new model and 206s have flooded the market...

Thank you for your advice

Continuing to try the car with it connected to a battery booster or a second battery is a sure way to fry your ECU.

Any battery will do as long as it's good at this stage and you can start the car with it. If it's too short, then pack out underneath with something solid (wood, rubber, etc) as a temporary measure.

Hi again and sorry for the late reply.I got the car all the way to Lion-Hellas, its the official peugeot here.

The pp 2000 didn't show errors. In some short of live check it was not responding when the switch was turned.

The peugeot guy told me he is 90 % sure it is from the bsi and that he had to open it.
Depending on the damage,at best they can repair it or at worst replace which will cost allot.

He also told me that allot of 206 cars go in with similar problems from having mods at headlights. It can be kind of random, sometimes they can be running with mods for 10 years without any issue.
So after that probably ill go back to my original headlights.

Will have a final update when i actually get the car working
/pray

So! tnx for your input, i hope i can save some time from the next lad that will have a similar issue or even better prevent somebody from a damaged bsi!

Thanks for your input!

Hi guys , back again.

Today i got a new BSI.

The side lights turn on but the Peugeot tech had my front ,drivers side light cable disconnected. When its connected the rear side light of this side will not come on also. So on monday ill replace both headlights with my originals.

Sadly there is more to it.

With the new BSI now i get:
1.Airbag fault
2.Passengers Airbag Deactivated
3.When i put down the handbreak i get a "Handbreak on" indication on screen(originally i never had this indication in my car)
4.Followed by it shows "ABS Fault"
5.and then also "Braking Fault"
6.Stop Light goes on & off as i drive.
7. My second key will not turn the engine on, it gives immobilizer message.

The breaks work ok , so does the handbreak.

Jesus, theres no end to it.

Ill see him again on Monday.

Take it you didn't try new battery or BSI reset first?
It sounds like you have tried a second hand BSI. Have you still got original BSI?
Cheers Col.

With my previous BSI i have tried both. With the new one i don't know what they did exactly.
