Just bought a 206cc 1.6 for what seemed to me to be a measly sum. However as with all old cars a couple of issues. Theres a slight pull to the right on acceleration. Researched this and my guess is Wishbones as they are mismatched. One looks old and original (rusty!) The other looks like a replacement. So first question is how much to get these sorted?
Second the exhaust flange joint has failed completely. So got gto get that sorted asap. Basicaly the flange has broken off from the Cat, downpipe. Can this be welded? Or would a flexible hose be the answer. Don't want to spend fortunes as this would negate the cheap purchase price.
Oh yeah, the cars done 65000 and had cambelt + waterpump very recently changed so not too worried about the motor. The Roof has been sorted too and seems to work perfectly, anything else I should look for?
I would get both lower arms replaced. May be mismatched but may simply be worn out (rubber bushes split, ball-joints wear). I've fitted the upgraded GTI ones to our 2.0L and they are much better and seem to last longer.
I've no idea how much as I do-it-myself but the arms should be about £60-70 each for good quality ones. Buy cheap, buy twice!
If you choose a garage who have done the job before, I think you should be looking at 1 1/2 hours per side, so £120 labour (based on £45 per hour which seems to be a standard rate)
I'm not familiar with the 1.6 exhaust, but I'd have a hunt around on the web for a new pipe as some aren't that expensive ..

thanks for the reply. Handlings not too scary, I ride a motorbike most of the time so anything on four wheels feels a tad more secure ;-) I'll get em done next month. I'll ask my mate to fit GTI ones. I'm hoping the exhaust can be welded as the rest seems pretty good, just that Flange broken off.

No sorry bit of a brain fade there. Some 206's have a flexy after that joint and I was thinking you meant that for some reason.
If it is the flange nearest the bolts with the springs, just replace the pipe. It's not expensive and a weld in that area will not last.

Thanks for the replies. Trouble is its the CAT and front pipe end thats broken rather than the other cheaper end! Would another fix be to fit a flexi there? To be honest I don't want to throw money at this thing. Only paid 1200 for it and was hoping to roll around in it for a couple of years of open top motoring fun with minimal outlay.
Update, Welded with a sleeve over the Cat pipe with a flange on. £45 mates rates. On the road again till the next bit drops off breaks. It is a 13 year old bargain basement so hey ho.
