roof not opening

Post by matt3579 »

sorry to post another one but ive serched and had no luck

when i open the roof latches i hear the chime to say its ready to open but when i press the button i get a continuas beeping for 5 seconds then stops and this happens every time i press the button

ive checked the switchs in the boot and they are boot fine and seem to be working what could cause this?

also i dont know if its any relation i dont think it is i had the clutch and gearbox changed the new gearbox wont fit my speedo sensor so i have none cus it was too costly to get a new one fitted to the new type gearbox despite being the same code i wouldnt have thought this would effect the roof tho

many thanks

matt

Does the roof not need a speed sensor so it knows not to try opening at speed?

Correct.
You also need a speedo for the MOT http://www.ukmot.com/mot%20manual/index ... Number=6.7

From your thread "new gearbox advice needed"
Yours will probably have an electronic speedo drive (just above where the O/S driveshaft enters the box

The roof has a safety feature whereby you cannot operate it at speeds above 5 mph.
No speed input = No roof operation

No. It's can-bus. It needs a signal. You can't earth it out.

Even if you did, you still need a speedo for the MOT (as above)

Why is it the rev counter is an acceptable alternative to a speedometer?

Because 4th gear is the same speed/revs

Ie 4,000 rpm in 4th is 40 mph

A rev counter is a tachometer not a tachograph. A tachograph records speed & mileage.
