Pos Battery lead
Hi, I'm a newbie this is my second post! I've just purchased a 2004 Peugeot 206cc I want to replace my Pos lead for an OEM one as someone has fitted a clamp type which stretches the lead are there different types as I have purchased one from eBay from a 2ltr GTI ut it has additional wires and doesn't seem to match mine.i also have my suspicions that the regulator in the Alternator is not shutting of properly can I fit an Ammeter easily or will my PP2000 show me if it is faulty? Thanks in advance Telecaster

Re: Pos Battery lead
Have you got the correct height battery? CC battery is taller than the hatchback version and they are often incorrectly replaced.
Personally I hate the original quick-release positive terminal .. they are prone to jumping off. Clamp type is much better. You might need to trim some of the battery box away to give it more clearance.

Re: Pos Battery lead
Well I agree also the problem is that someone has fitted the clamp type but it's not a very good one and this makes the lead very tight also as pointed out the lid no longer clips home without modding it.I have purchased the correct Battery but am not going to fit it until I know if the Regulator on the Alternator is functioning properly so will the PP2000 show me this?can I fit an Ammeter so I can monitor the Alternator and apart from the duff Haynes schematic who has a better schematic

Re: Pos Battery lead
Why do you think the reg is faulty?
You can check the alternator quite easily with a meter. No need for exotic solutions- It's just an alternator.

Re: Pos Battery lead
When I removed Battery box et el a white powdery deposit was evident so I am assuming at some point the Battery must be emitting this and it would only occur if the Battery was overcharging whilst I concede I can test it with a meter out in series with lead this is only a very short time test and I would prefer to have a more permanent way of monitoring the Regulator hence Ammeter

Re: Pos Battery lead
You could fit an ammeter, I wouldn't though. (there is a reason cars no longer have them) Voltmeter is a much safer option.
I think you are looking for problems that aren't there. White powder could be due to several things that are nothing to do with the alt, such as overfilling battery, faulty battery, spillage when battery has been removed or changed in the past. or even verdigris forming on battery post that has fallen down. Might just be plain aluminium corrosion (if on ally) due to road salt or storage.
I would be looking for better evidence than that of overcharging personally.

Re: Pos Battery lead
Still not getting an answer to this! Yes I have the correct taller Battery that stretches the lead even tighter! So I'll ask again this lead with the mod clamp on has only one thick wire going to the engine fuse box and a lead that plugs in with a blue and a white wire to it all the replacement leads I have bought have two thick wires going to the engine fuse box not the same so How many types of Positive leads are out there are they year specific and if so what years apart from 2004 do I need to look at?

Re: Pos Battery lead
To find out about the lead you need to either ask the parts desk at a dealers or get yourself an account on servicebox ...it's free it you don't need more than part numbers and basic info.
