Good evening everyone!
I live in Chambourcy, France (I can see the Peugeot factory in Poissy from my spamspam window!).
Lurking on this forum for the last few weeks helped me make my choice between a 206CC and a 306 Cab - you can guess which one I got...
Last week I found a 206CC 2.0 Rolland Garros going cheap, but with roof issues that I was fairly confident in my ability to fix - it no longer beeps since this evening, explanations for that and my final issue will be in a seperate post, and it replaces a 1996 106 1.6 (8v).
When I am not tracing the wiring of the 206, or changing parts on my BMW motorbike, I work in IT, managing a customer support team (AKA, herding cats).
Cheers,
Bpfh

Aha, but it depends what version of Windows you are running... Windows ME (Mostly Electric) or NT (Not Turning) or XP (Xploded Parts).
You can solve a lot of Windows Problems by installing a Windows - SP (See Peugeot).
After noticing that you have Windows NT, you have to apply SP, go back home with the new Installation Package, and be very careful during the installation to make sure that the cables are properly set up, so when you go back to Windows ME, and press the Start button, it does not make crunching noises, blocking Windows in the Door, giving you an ID10T error, and making you feel like Windows - RT (Right Twat)*.
*As I did on a VW Bora

Re: Hello from Chambourcy
Can windows XP fully use a 1tb hd? Thinking about using laptop Windows7 licence in a new build and giving the laptop windows XP.
That way saving £80 although I would have preferred to get windows 8.1 for new build.

As long as your drive is formatted in NTFS, XP will see it, though 1 Tb will come out at 940-odd Gb due to rounding differences (base 2 / base 10).... but you really should not be installing XP anymore, since it's no longer supported by Microsoft - no more security patches and a good way of getting your PC pwned.
As for 7, go for it, ignore 8 and grab the free 7/8-to-10 that MS should be making available this year!

Re: Hello from Chambourcy
I used to hate 8 but in all fairness I have not had any issues relating to o/s from wifes i5 set up.
If I had the money I would leave windows7 licence with laptop and get a 8.1 licence for new build.

Re: Hello from Chambourcy
For Windows 8, when I first kickstarted it, I was lost when wanting to look for the services or system setup to optimise several things, I ended up installing Classic Shell, that gives me a standard Windows Start Menu and control panel (Look up "Classic Shell" on the net, I can't post the URL here).
If you only have an XP licence hanging around, by all means , install it, but before doing too much with it, you must run all the Windows Updates, with multiple reboots, then install a decent antivirus & antimalware tool. And make backups if you are doing anything important with it, as if you do get a virus from some unpatched vector, there is no comeback if you lose your data (there never is anyway, but you risk far more with a system that no longer has active security patches created for it to keep you safer)
Now, if you are fitting out a Car PC that will only be connected very infrequently, if at all, to the interweb, then you can use whatever expired OS you like (Personally, I would suggest Windows 2000, as you can really get that to fly even on low spec stuff if you talk to it right!
Cheers,
Daniel

Re: Hello from Chambourcy
I would not be worried about data loss or virus on laptop unless it can affect my network with the wireless connection.
As an IT professional would you be alarmed if you saw a pc unit recently installed in a warehouse, with internet connection, also connected to the company network where data is vital and it was running XP?
I saw this today. I know I would risk it on my overheating shut down laptop, but I am not so sure I would risk XP on a business network. Or maybe I am being melodramatic.
