Starter motor wiring
Hi
I bought a y reg 2.0 206cc non runner and the previous owner said he had burnt out the starter motor trying to start the car after it had been stood a while.
Anyhow I took off the starter motor today and noticed that there was an earth clip loose from the loom, the starter motor was connected with the two black leads at the back.
Can anyone point me a to where this earth lead should be connected so I can be sure the hew one is connected properly
Thanks
James

Re: Starter motor wiring
If you look at where the gearbox bolts to the bell housing, slightly to the front of the car from where the starter bolts up, you should see a double ended bolt. It goes there.

Ok
New starter motor fitted and earth lead connected - found it bolted to the block.
Reconnected battery following bis reset procedure.
Turned key to start car just getting a click and car not turning over?

Re: Starter motor wiring
On the large starter connector, check you have continuity to + of battery. Sounds like a bad contact somewhere.

Re: Starter motor wiring
If the starter solenoid is clicking, then it won't be a fuse

Re: Starter motor wiring
Hi
Not sure starter is clicking as the noise is from inside the car.
When I try to start it it is like the battery is flat but I have charged it and there is enough power to operate the roof
Cheers

Re: Starter motor wiring
Picking up a new battery tonight as not sure how old the other was is and I am sure leaving it in the cold for a couple of months hasn't helped.
Can then rule that out as cause of problem

Re: Starter motor wiring
You sure the engine is not seized? If it's a manual, put it in 5th and see if the engine will turn with a push
