Intermittent starting problem

Post by Ladycool »

I've got a 206 Sport auto 2006 reg, never had a problem always reliable , until now :(

10 out of 10 times it starts fine not a problem but now it's not so great.

It can go days/ weeks running fine then today it would not start after been a half hour drive.
Left it for 20 mins then tried and boom it started, on the occassions it doesn't start you can hear a click when you turn the key .
A local mechanic had recently serviced it, changed plugs and checked out the starter motor nothing wrong with it, told me possibly the battery ?
Bought one today changed it over and thought I was sorted , drove it for a 30 min run parked came out started fine, great must be battery , then stopped for petrol , guess what yup not starting , waited a short time around 10 mins , didn't start first few turns , left 5 mins it started.

What is the problem, it is a lot colder is this showing up a weakness somewhere ?

Not sure if this is related but on a recent motorway journey in heavy traffic bumper to bumper , when accelerating it thudded into a gear more like a bang sort of sound.
Further along it seemed to lose gears temporarily then back the came ?

Any ideas ?

I take it your car is not a 206cc.

New starter motor required. A common occurrence with Peugeot 206 cars of your age.

I don't know the answer to your auto-gearbox question as I am not familiar with auto boxes but I would be wondering when the gearbox was last serviced with a fluid and filter change? It could be a sticking solenoid in the gearbox which requires replacement.
