track rod ends

Post by mud plugger »

Hello All,
I have a 2001 206cc S16 2.0 with 82k on the clock and it needs some work completed.

I need the tracking adjusted and the track rod adjustment is rusted solid, anyone got any cheats on this one? Other than a lot of heat and a large wrench :D

Also my gearbox may need topping up slightly as had a little oil leak past a drive shaft (pulled it out a little to far - don't think i lost a lot but when it is coming out is looks loads) when fitting a new lower wishbone/suspension arm, can anyone tell me where the top up point is and if you top up until it comes back out of the filler hole like many other cars?

Thanks for your help :love-thx:

Soak it in wd40 the night before and give it a stern look/ talking too in the morning.

Penetration oil like plusgas is much better ... or WD40 Penetrating Fluid I guess but that isn't the same as the general purpose stuff.

Unless you do regular mechanics, save yourself the money and just use wd40. There would be no point in paying out money for penetration oil for one job.

If it is badly rusted on, WD40 might not shift it ... even soaking overnight for several nights ...

It might be best left to the alignment guys as if you round off the nut, they may not be able to move it either. Having it up on a lift makes the job so much easier.

regardless of the marketing I don't find WD40 is all it's cracked up to be ... and can't ... no one fluid can do all they claim it can.

£30 currently with Halfrauds Autocentre.

I do tend to use wd40 as a generic name for release fluids. Although in my shed that is all I have got left.

Agree with Gazza. I use plusgas or loctite XXXX (cant remember the name)
WD40 is essentially a water dispersing agent (hence WD) and there are better dedicated penetrating fluids.
