Battery problem

Post by haylisluff »

Hi guys,

Random question, do I have to buy a battery for my 206 cc from Peugeot? I am being told that I have the wrong battery in the car... is this possible, when I have had it provided to me by a local motor parts supplier based on my reg and model etc...

The car currently wont start, is holding a charge and there is current running across the terminals.

I don't think it would be the battery as it was only replaced last November I think.

The only way we can get it to start is to bump start it or jump it :(

We have managed to get the key paired to the car again, as the central locking did stop working we have and done a BSI unit reset but are now right out of ideas, other than my key fob battery being low? Could this cause it to not start? And it does this funny high pitched whine from the engine bay whilst the ignition is on...

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as I am currently car less and will have to drive the boyfriends scary BMW 330...if any one can save me from this scary experience I would really appreciate it :)

Thanks in advance

Does sound like a duff battery (or connection) The cc battery is taller than the one for other 206's. There are plenty of posts about it in the electrical section. Whatever you do- sort it out. If you keep on jump starting you are likely to end up killing the BSI.
Cheers Col.

Just go to a reputable parts supplier (and by that I don't mean Halfords as they always try and sell me the wrong battery! )

Try googling motor parts or motor factors and see who is near you. EuroCarParts aren't bad but double check the battery sizes. (Or use their online outlet carparts4less.co.uk)

You could try Peugeot as they often have special offers. Or one of the on-line battery suppliers should be ok.

Check all the connections. The daft flip-off positive connector on the 206 is prone to problems as one of my colleagues found late one night in a pub car park. Taking them both off, giving the posts and the internals a clean with some wet&dry paper and a smear of vaseline might help. Don't over-tighten them but make sure they don't move. (It's daft as the first connection you should remove is the NEGATIVE one!)

Also check the thick earth cable that runs down to the gearbox and engine .. these can break meaning you don't get a good connection and your symptoms.
