do I need radio code if I disconnect battery

Post by derekb »

I've read that the radio is VIN coded to the vehicle. If I disconnect the battery (to charge it or for maintenance for example) do I need to input a code when reconnected (if so how?) or does it recognise the VIN code automatically? 206cc allure sept 2005

If it is the original radio you shouldn't need to input a code. I didn't when I renewed my battery.

many thanks for reply - that certainly makes sense - if its VIN coded and matched to the car why would you need to enter a code. Yet elsewhere on here people say they have?

Older style original Clarion radios do need a code ... these are the ones with a display in the radio rather than just using the MFD. They are also curved at the edges rather than a plain rectangular shape.

aah I've got a Clarion, single CD player, square edges, no display so sounds like I'll be OK then. Thanks for your insight...

Sounds like the RD3 I have in my HDi. No code.
