Airbag Light Fault

Post by soundman9 »

Hi,

I am new to this forum so sorry if this is in the wrong area. Firstly I have read a lot about his problem (and yes the car has failed its MOT on it.) The bit that is confusing me is that I have taken the front seats out to check the cabling for that troublesome green connector and there is nothing connected to it!? On both the driver and passenger sides.

It is just loose under the carpet next to a white connector. There are no loose wires at all ( i have had the full carpet up) so it does not look like some have pulled out and there are no connections on the seats (which look like factory seats.)

It looks like it has always been like that and the problem with the airbag light has only started in the last 6 months so it has never been an issue before.

Looking back through the logs there has been nothing done to the seats or the airbag to warrant any of this cabling being changed but I just cant understand why our car is different to the huge number of people who are getting asked to resolder the cables together. I do not have cables on the other side of the connect (blue, brown etc) to connect to. The only cables going into it are the 2 x orange and the 1 x yellow green trace cable on one side and nothing on the other.

Any advise would be appreciated as I am a sound engineer so re soldering the connections will hopefully be a nice easy fix if I could work out where the missing cables are....or if that is the fault in the first place.

Cheers
Martin

Hi Martin and welcome.
You haven't told us anything about your car, so I'm guessing it's a 206 of some sort and hopefully a 206CC. (We get questions for all sorts of Peugeots, even though we are a forum dedicated to the 206CC)

If it is a 206CC, people often changed the seats from cloth to leather and there is a range of differing seat plug & sockets depending on the year/ model/ options. It may have side airbags in the seat or not.
If the seats have been changed, the plugs in the seats may have been cut off due to a miss match between seat plugs and car sockets. Other than that, you may have a completely unrelated problem. Have you had the codes read?

Sorry. Without more to go on that's all I can suggest.
Cheers Col.

Hi sorry!! Yes its a 206cc and its a 2002 model. It doesnt have leather seats but there are no connectors on the underneath of the seat and as i said the green and white conencted are just loose under the carpet. The garage said the fault was an open circuit fault although he didnt go into much detail :/

Hopefully this is enough to work with.

The seats are possibly a red-herring.
The most common airbag fault is due to dodgy connections in the COM2000 unit (the thing that houses indicator, wiper, radio and airbag functions behind the steering wheel).
Sounds like a diagnostic would nail it for you, but if it IS the COM2000 then I don't know if they are serviceable - I don't think they are (ordinarily - however an electronics whizz might have better luck than us mere mortals).
Where are you located - could you put your location in your profile?

The issue is the green plugs! They are definately for the seat connections. If these aren't connected you will get fault codes and airbag light, but you say airbag light has only recently come on????

Does this coincide with work done on the car?
Did the light come on for a few seconds and they extinguish when ignition switched on prior to this fault occurring? (That's what should happen)
Cheers Col.
