Limp mode/Engine cutout etc. PLEASE help!

Post by louboutin1 »

Hi everyone!
I am new to this forum, and while I'm well aware that I own a Peugeot 206xs and not a cc :sorry: , I sincerely hope you'll be willing to try and help me out.
My problem is that my Peugeot 206xs from 2001 has, for a long time now, completely random started to suddenly go into something I think is "limp mode". (I cant get above 2k rpm and around 20-30km/h) This happens on the highway alot of times (as I have to drive there to and from work) and its SUPER scary when it suddenly won't keep up with traffic @ 130km/h. Normally, it will actually just cut out on the highway actually, then I have to restart and its in "limp mode"..Sometimes, after 20-30 restarts it will be completely fine again, and work with 0 problems for 2months..! I really don't understand the problem, and when I take it to the garage, they don't find anything wrong with it, no error codes(apparently..unbelievable though..), nothing!
They once changed the "electric brain" they called it..It was a part from Bosch, quite expensive...This might have fixed it (I dont know, cause its so random!) for another 3-4months, but now the problem is back...now it's so bad I cant even get it out of limp mode when restarting 20-30,,50 times...And I'm now afraid that I will just ruin the engine completely if I keep trying.
I have tried resetting with the waiting 3minutes, taking battery out etc. etc. Have followed every guide, but nothing works.
I have attached a link to a video I just quickly edited with footage from my phone from the last 3days, just hoping it will be to any information.
Please, help me out, I cant afford more useless garage "repairs" where they do nothing..I feel so lost

Apparently I cant post links..so just remove the spaces inbetween. Its just a link to my clowdy account...
BEST regards, Erik

You need to get the codes read ... not all standard codes readers will work so you may need to use a peugeot dealer or find someone with PP2000 and a set of Lexia-3 cables.

Without any guidance, you (and we) are working in the dark.

When it goes does it feel like it is only running on one or two cylinders .. could be, and I stress COULD, the coil packs.

What engine / year?
Nothing to add to what Gazza has said other than if it has gone into limp there will be codes stored. Get them and post them here for more info.
Cheers Col.

When requesting help of a technical nature, please give as much detail of the fault as possible along with details of exact model, engine size & type, gearbox, year, mileage, and any relevant work carried out to try to solve the problem to help us help you.
Better still, put the details in your signature.

Thank you both for quick answers!
Ok, I will go back to the Peugeot dealer and tell them to scan for codes again, then...I just cant understand how they cant find codes, when something is so :censored: wrong with the little beauty!
Hmm, I wouldnt say so..although, I dont really know how that would feel like. But I mean, when it works, it feels like it's working as a brand new car, good acceleration and everything..if that's what u meant.
Will post back after I've taken it (in 30km/h) to the peugeot garage.
Thank you again
