Hi can anyone help? Bought an old 51 2.0se was ok for an old one. Since having had it 4 weeks now have a steering problem.... pulling to right on acceleration and left on lifting foot? Had 1 faulty wishbone drivers side replaced this week and tracking done today! Ok up to 25mph and ok if you give it some!!!!! 30-65 all over the place!!! Any clues or help much appreciated Andy

Re: steering problem
Obvious areas would be another worn arm, worn rack/track rods, hub bearings or new one incorrectly fitted, tracking not correct. And tyres ....tread depth, same type, pressures, etc.
138bhp thriugh a light car dies that ... it's called torque steer.I can get my daughter's to twitch easily with good tyres and suspension.

Re: steering problem
Well the name suggests Budget tyres, so they may not be great ... if you end up replacing the damaged one, buy two and initially put both on the back to scrub them in. Best tyres should ALWAYS go on rear, even on a FWD car.andysuzy206 wrote:firenza! Also noticed passenger tyre has a couple of bulges!!!
If the torque steer goes with the different tyres, then that was the problem, otherwise it back to mechanical issues.

Re: steering problem
REading with interest as mine is the same (51 2.0SE) Pulls right when I dump the foot, left when i let the pedal up, but also 'randomly' jinks to the right, then back left moments later as if following a track. Very noticeable when going round a right hand sweeping curve as the car can suddenly feel like its no longer steering enough.
Nice to know im not alone, tho sorry you have the issue, obviously.
MOT in 2 weeks, so im expecting a bill for 'something' worn, but now that we have some dry weather the jack and crowbar are coming out to test the linkages etc.

Re: steering problem
I think it's good old "torque steer" .. if we have three 2.0 CC's that do it, it's probably a design issue. Rather than floor it, be more progressive with the loud pedal.
Again 138bhp through a light car ... most high powered, front-wheel drives do it unless there is some technical wizardry in the gearbox ...

Re: steering problem
It hasnt been there all the time.... torque steer is a constant I guess... this feels almost unsafe!! Because its in the mid range! Gonna swap front n backs first process of elimination I guess. Also as karrot describes on a right bend it feels like not enough turn? Any more ideas out there? Will keep posted if wheel swap makes a difference cheers Andy

Re: steering problem
"not enough turn" ... you mean understeer? Feels like the car is sliding gently outwards ...
my bet, tyres ... not gripping. What size tyres have you got now? CCs came with 15 or 16 inch wheels. 16s should be 205/45R16 which are not cheap if you want good ones ... we've got Hankook Evo V12's which are very good in wet and dry.

Re: steering problem
Morning all.... changed wheels over this morning and to me its a liitle better but still there! Not so savage if u are gentle with the loud pedal as advised! But still there, tried the car on full lock slow both ways. Left seems fine.... right how ever quite clonky! Drive shaft??? Would this also cause the pull to right and jump back left under load??? Thanks for any ideas /clues in advance Andy

Re: steering problem
Mine's definitely become worse over the past few days.
Driving on a flat Duel Carriage way without any truck tram lines and my 2.0SE will suddenly 'jink' right, them moments later back left, as if the car was following rails. The steering wheel pulls over to the right a little, so I straighten up again, then she jinks back to the left.
I have a poke about with the crowbar at the weekend and wishbones, track rod ends and ball joints all seem ok, But i have a suspicion that the drivers side wheel bearing is shot.

Re: steering problem
Thanks for the update, glad you're sorted.
It confirms one suspicion I have for my baby, MOT failure coming in a week, so we'll see what the parts list is
