I will give more details when I have done a bit more detective work, meantime any comments would be appreciated.

CC roofs are programmed to fail....
? Due to some specific things which have happened on a cc im currently working on I am seriously beginning to to think they have a preset chip which shut it down at a certain mileage or date, big comment I know but the French are renowned for this type of thing, (Epson printers being one famous example).

Don't be daft. Epson printers have a built-in counter to protect the ink-pads from overflowing. When it stops working because of that then you service the pads, reset the counter and you're off again. Common sense maintenance. Would you rather the ink floods your desk?
The French are fine engineers - if a little eccentric to our English (and Scottish) taste at times.

Re: CC roofs are programmed to fail....
I am not specifically here to discuss Epson printers GrandadMonkey, I am logically trying to discuss whether or not 206cc roof ECU,s could have a pre programmed "fail" chip built in, which is a very easy thing for a manufacturer to do, Im not saying it has, Im not saying it hasn't either but I have seen things happen with my own eyes which would very feasibly correspond to that being the case, as I said above I need to delve a lit deeper before I can say anything with greater conviction, I am a Honda qualified technician so I have a good understanding of vehicle systems, I don't have to come on here and discuss anything with anyone but being the helpful individual I am my findings could possibly be of great help for CC owners.GrandadMonkey wrote:Don't be daft. If you research the subject a little deeper you will find that the issues with Epson printers is a hell of a lot more complex than just Ink pads overflowing.

Chill pill lads !!!!
I don't think the roof is programmed to fail....just the rest of the car !!!!
There are some very helpful posts about roof problems Wee Smurf..so have a look round.
The more we all know the easier the problem solving will be.

Re: CC roofs are programmed to fail....
Nah, not designed to fail, just not built to last!
Keep 'em exercised and they keep going fine.
But do something daft like stop 'em half way, or if micro-switches start to get sticky, and they can get stuck in an "unable to complete cycle" loop, and then they just throw a complete tantrum.
After that you need something else unintuitively French like PP2000 to sort 'em out!
Sorry to be the voice of doom and gloom here, but I predict this forum to be likely to experience increasing numbers of frustrated new posters with each passing Spring, as batteries die or roofs that just about worked OK the previous Autumn are used for the first time (with disastrous consequences) after Winter.

Enright, Im with you on that one!, I used to think working on my Elan was a bit challenging, nothing compared to the idiosyncrasies of a Pug.Enright wrote:Nah, not designed to fail, just not built to last!.

Wee Smurf - if you visit your post and scroll up you will see a post called Location of microswitches.
Under Problems Roof.
If you go on this and enter Repair Guide which I think is highlighted in blue you will find a wealth
of information not only with regards to the roof but most of the car.
Hope you find something useful.

Re: CC roofs are programmed to fail....
I'm glad that you managed to sort out the roof problem by replacing the pillar micro-switch. Well done.
No preset chip after all.

Not as far as I know GDMONKEY, but if you check my post you will see I never said they did!, I raised a perfectly legitimate question .GrandadMonkey wrote:I'm glad that you managed to sort out the roof problem by replacing the pillar micro-switch. Well done.

Re: CC roofs are programmed to fail....
What, no "bong" when you undo the latches?
In that case, start by checking that the blind is pulled across in the boot, and that you can hear a tiny clicking noise from the microswitch on the LHS where it hooks in.
Then listen for the same tiny click coming from each roof latch. If you can't hear it coming from one of them, then you've probably got a sticky microswitch.
Finally, follow the instructions above to find the post with the location of all of the microswitches in it, and put your location in your profile just in case there is a forum member close to you who has Peugeot Planet 2000 and who can do a diagnostic.
