help juddering over 2k revs

Post by dawnlister »

Hi all, please help. I bought my first Peugeot fri. 04 plate 45000 miles 1.4 petrol. Drove her home about 40 miles and although I was cautious drove great. Fueld up with unleaded drove home fine. Took to work sunday evening noticed uphill juddering. Further driving and concentrating revealed only juddering over2k revs on fkat or hill. Local garage can recognise a problem but have no idea what it is. P l ugs changed (ngk - I have read these are no good for Peugeot but he disagrees) he had little bkue for 2 days n gave up no warning lights ( although if you really push on this juddering battery light flashes on for split second. Please im not tech minded and I have wanted a 206 since I was 17 , now 30. Gutted and dispondant.

If you bought it from a dealer take it back. (You are right btw, should use Bosch plugs in it.)

If you bought it privately contact the previous owner and ask them about the problem. They'll probably deny it had one though.

I don't have enough info to diagnose but could be fuel, coil pack, battery connections, earth connection. What plugs did it have in it before? Where did you buy the fuel? What grade did you fill up with?

Has it got a service record? When and where was it last serviced? How many previous owners?

Contact previous owner - not aware shock horror. She used standard unleaded. I used morrisons standard unleaded. Previous plugs unbranded according to mechanic. New alternator and battery 6 months ago. Thanks

The fact that the previous owner was horrified that you have a problem is good news if she is honest. I never use supermarket fuel since I had a car that wouldn't run properly on it. I always use Shell or BP (or very occasionally Esso). I usually stick to Shell V-Power Nitro+ and BP Ultimate but their ordinary petrol should be ok for a 1.4 hatchback not to run badly. Their top fuels have additives that are designed to run more cleanly.

I'd use decent petrol and get the correct Bosch spark plugs fitted. If the coil pack has already been spiked then I'd change them simultaneously. A faulty coil pack can damage new spark plugs, and faulty/incorrect spark plugs can damage the coil pack.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

New coil pack and plug s and it was still the same. Turns out it was mas air filter. Three new tyres and a good service now done too. Ready to roll. Fingers crossed all goes well from here on in. Just as well I didn't pay full asking price

Have you had the fault codes read?
How was it diagnosed as MAF sensor?
Cheers Col.

After coil pack was changed maf was disconnected and engine reved fine so they got a new one and it seemed to them that it ran great, which it did until I reached a hill! And then it got progressively worse. It got so bad I got hubby to drive it home cause I was so upset . Last mechanic also suspect its not original engine as various parts they ordered from the reg did not match engine. Going to mechanic no 3 mon morning as mechanic 2 is now stumped. . No 3 Advertises as Peugeot specialist so fingers crossed. .

are you still using the **** supermarket fuel?

if no faults it could still be maf. I take it is was new ... try driving it up a hill again with it disconnected. Not all show a fault even though they are failing. Sometimes only a completely dead maf will give a fault code.

Hi, thanks. I have not been able to run the fuel off as its been in the garages. Peugeot specialist says so far that its running really rich and then completely opposite no fuel at all, I don't know exactly what he has looked at until I talk to him tomorrow . He seems to think a possible fault with ecu.
