New CC Issue

Post by cillian »

Hi All,

First post and sadly a not good one. Bought my CC a little less than a week ago. All was going fine and then today a newly fitted timing belt/aux. belt suddenly snapped, so had to get RAC out to get the car back to the dealer I bought it from. Will be phoning them in the morning about this and some other little niggles I'd like feedback on:

When coasting to a stop or just take the foot off the accelerator the car seems to drag/pull back rather than roll smoothly. It's an auto box, is this normal or something to worry about?

If I brake harshly I can feel the seat roll forward is this normal? I know I should go forward, but the seat too?

I have to get them to fix the driver's seat height adjustment, because it doesn't work at all. Could it be an issue with the entire rails?
When stopped, if the car is in drive, if I want to take my foot off the brake to stop it pulling forward I have to pull the handbrake quite high i.e. until I feel tension, then another click. Normal? Or am I possibly being just overly cautious of the car releasing the foot brake?

Also I'm really struggling to find a good focal point for bay parking in the car. Anyone have any good reference points? Still struggling to get it into the driveway in reverse, but that's another story.

Hope these aren't stupid questions.

Thanks,
Cillian

That's a serious repair (very expensive) Was the belt replaced by the garage that sold it?

Fairly normal to have some engine braking with an auto

If I brake harshly I can feel the seat roll forward is this normal? I know I should go forward, but the seat too?
Search for the many posts on here regarding faulty seat rails. It's a common problem. It can sometimes just be an alignment fault where one rail is set further forward than the other

Quite normal as while in drive the brake has to hold back the car but also resist the engine trying to creep the car forwards

Also I'm really struggling to find a good focal point for bay parking in the car. Anyone have any good reference points? Still struggling to get it into the driveway in reverse, but that's another story."focal point for bay parking" Sorry not sure what you mean, but for reversing, We just use the mirrors

Hope these aren't stupid questions.

Thanks,
Cillian

Hi Capncol,

Yes the belt had been replaced by the garage that sold it to me last Tuesday, they also MOT'd and supposedly serviced the car - so I will be arguing that the belt they fitted was faulty rather than forking out for another one. Also took out an extended warranty, whilst I know that won't cover the belt itself it may cover any mechanical issue that might have caused it.

For parking, some people in some cars line up say the wing mirror with the third bay then full lock to the left, and it should slide right in. Just wondering if anyone has any similar positions / suggestions for how far forward to go to allow this to happen.

Thank you for your answers.

On the parking subject, I think you have to simple practice and find what's best for you ...

Hmm. This is from the MOT testers manual.

Thanks. Yes the seat goes forwards and back with a little effort to lock it in place but having read other posts it sounds normal enough. The height adjustments handle isn't mentioned in the MOT book, but it doesn't work at all... obviously just wanted to do as little work as possible. Considering it's 12 years old, they did do quite a bit of work to bring it up to standard. Just one of those things I guess.

Have spoken to them today and they're going to fix it. No mention of money... yet.

For a little car, it does give me quite a headache trying to reverse into parking spots. Something to do with FWD, I'm told. Use of wing mirrors is essential, as there are no focal points. What I do notice, however, is that there is no problem with the roof down! So there you have it - when reversing into Tescos park spot - roof down, reverse, roof up, ignition off, do shopping. Or, more practice!!! Have fun.

I would love to be able to put the roof down, but weather's not currently that good. But I agree, I think it may be to do with there not being as much of a view out the back nearside compared to a hatchback.
Will just take it out and practice a lot until I get it right.

This focal point thing is all a bit new to me. Never heard of it before. You learn something new every day!
I guess you find a method that works for you and use it.

I remember my instructor saying to take one of the parking lines of one of the car spaces and line it up with something on the left window such as the corner of the wing mirror and use that as a guiding point of where to stop before doing the reverse park. Worked for my test

I actually prefer reverse bay parking to parallel parking. Guess it's just practice as I never seem to have a need to parallel park and always reverse bay park, so it's quickier to get out of work ;)

Just to update everyone, it's all been fixed at no cost to myself.
Replaced auxillary belt and pulley, also happy to be able to raise the driver's seat.

Summer? We dont need no summer! As long as water isn't actually falling out of the sky in some form, the roof can be down! :big-grin:
