Greetings from cold, wet, miserable Spain

Post by The Mouse »

Just bought 2006 1.6 Roland Garros from a man who proudly told me he never opened the bonnet; left all that to the local Peugeot service agent. When I pointed out the missing bonnet sound insulation, the leaky manifold gasket and the engine oil and brake fluid that looks like dilute marmite, he showed me the invoice to prove that he had just paid 400€ for a 60,000km service! So much for "full service history". Good warning not to use local man, though and helped in the negotiation.
One thing I wasn't quite sure of: when I look down between the block and the radiator, I`m not supposed to see the road, am I? Surely there's supposed to be a stone guard/sump guard or something. The other thing that has me puzzled is the pair of air intake grilles on the nearside top of the bonnet that lead to a sealed cavity which vents to the open air just behind the nearside front wheel. What's supposed to be there?
Bodywork and interior, by the way, are showroom.
This is my first Peugeot; I think it's going to be fun!

Undertrays were an option. As they tended to be made of fibre-like materials they fall off or never get put back!

The bonnet vents should lead to the pollen filter, and then the heater. By the way, welcome!

Thank you for your prompt replies. I'm afraid I will never have that virtue.
So, need to find undertray. Don't know about this car but once I forgot to put it back on the Spider and noticed the drag immediately. Just looked at the invoices and he paid 80€ for a replacement pollen filter last March! Got to sort that out, Whichever way I go, I have to drive past all sorts of vegetation.
Off to troll the spare parts pages now. Thanks again.

Sorry, but did I read that right - 80 Euros? That's ridiculous! That filter should only cost about 8!
If I remember rightly it looks like a rectangle with a corner cut off.

Thanks, people. Yes, 80€. There are a lot of service agents around here, builders, plumbers, electrical, motoring etc. that take the P out of foreigners who've got more money than sense, don't speak the language and don't understand the currency (how about 200€ to put up a ceiling fan?). Added to which they have a minimum 1hr charge, work as slowly as they can and count nipping out for a fag as working. Fortunately I've been around long enough and am known well enough not to have that problem.
The cavity I mentioned is completely empty, no box, no pipes, nothing; just the bodywork. This car has got the computer controlled, automatic climate control thing so I'm wondering if the pollen filter is in a different place but the weather has stopped me poking around. Might be able to try tomorrow. I'll let you know when I do.

Filter is in same place on a 206 regardless of model ... if you feel back behind the strut mount, under the screen it will be there or nothing. Just pop one in.

You might find getting one posted from UK is cheaper!

Check this out ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEu-Qmo1CYY

And sending one to Spain is around £12.95 according to this ebayer .. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-206-P ... 2#shpCntId

or this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-206-p ... 4#shpCntId which is about £12 in total!!

If you have a Citroen dealer near, they share parts and ought to be able to order Pug bits for you if you know the part numbers ...
