ANTI POLLUTION FAULT....AGAIN

Hello all,
as some of you might have read I had hoped the APF warning light was a thing of the past but this afternoon it started flashing again...at least this time was on the drive and not whilst on the road.
I waited a couple of minutes and tried again but four successive times it flashed up and the engine warning light would not go out. When my husband got back from work an hour or so later he tried the ignition and the same thing happened but this time he actually floored the accelerator whilst in neutral and all the warning lights went out and all seemed fine.....don't think it is though, really hoped the relearning of the throttle sensor had sorted this but am now starting to doubt that this will be sorted economically and am seriously considering putting it back on the market in the new year.....if anyone has any pearls of wisdom that would be appreciated

You really need to get the diagnostic codes and post them here, otherwise we are just guessing

I got speaking to a friend of a friend who's a mechanic and after a quick process of elimination suggested that the wireing loom/pedal wire is more than likely the problem as he'd come up against that problem before...any thoughts people.......really love my 206cc and don't want to part with it so soon ....

Like said above you should try and get codes read then you will know what the problems are. I've had the dreaded APF light up and each time it's been something different. Until you know the codes you are just guessing what is wrong. Maybe if you state your location someone nearby on this forum or 206info will be able to help get diagnostics done? All the best YL

I would reckon 02 sensors, we have had 11 cc's in with APF warning in the last 3 years and every one was 02 sensor (looking back through my notes).
Code reader will confirm though, you can get one pretty cheap nowadays and to be honest if you own a Pug its pretty much an essential purchase and will save you money in the long run.

If you are on a budget there is an option for fixing 02 sensors that will cost buttons and if it does not work, well all you will lose is a bit time and erm -buttons because if you buy new 02 sensors from Mr Pug you will be robbed of a pretty penny!, go to a scrapyard and remove the newest looking ones you can find on a 206 and swap them over, chances are your problem will be sorted but bear in mind you will have to erase the old codes first, and handle the sensors gently!.

Julie1806: How good is the exhaust system?

Even a small hole caused EML on our older CC to light up with various fault codes. Doing it again now as the centre silencer is split after a coming together with a tall speed hump (bent system up slightly).

Thank you for all the feedback and advice everyone...my son is a mechanic, just somewhat anti-French cars but I will get him to check the codes and maybe one of his pals in the trade is going to give the wireing the once over...In anwser to a couple of points raised, the exhaust system is 6 months old as was replaced by the previous owner in the summer and as for the codes, whilst I don't have them to hand,each time It's gone in to a garage, even the Peugeot main dealer in Rochester,Kent the fault has come up as a throttle body and pedal sensor even though both these were recently replaced and are brand new!! Will keep you advised of what the current code are when checked

Ask your son to check the pins and wiring to the throttle body ... it could be simply a bit of corrosion or one is bent out of shape.

Just make sure that all the exhaust joints are sealed. Don't use gungum though ... could be bad for the cat. I think the silicon sealants are ok to use, but I'm sure capncol will confirm that ...

Yes, avoid gum gum or any of the cement paste type compounds on anything in front of the cat. Before the cat is all gaskets and seals, so shouldn't require anything, but if you *must* use something then the high temp silicone type is the best option used sparingly.

Also add to the list of apf causes
coil packs
spark plugs
injectors
ECU
........etc etc, which is why the codes are important.
If you have changed the pedal and throttle body (with new ones?) then they shouldn't be causing the problem now as new items are unlikely to have exactly the same fault as the old ones.
