Glad I could help! Pure guess you realise! ;)

Also take care with the black plastic tube running near that connector ... they get very brittle and snap! :?

Looks like the engine cover has been pressing down on the wiring ...

Turns out after close inspection that my 'wobbly' gear stick wasn't caused by the bushings but a loose bolt that should have been ancoring the gear linkages. I can finally put the car into reverse!

Our 1.4 hatch back lost reverse, 3rd and 5th ...

After expecting a hefty bill for a new gearbox found out that a cotter pin had fallen out!

hi I have a major problem with my 206 cc wont start, when you put the key in the ignition the lights come on the dash and the wiper blades and headlights come on by themselves.the car trys to start but wont.have been stuck at work with this problem an had to call out rac to help to get car going, had to disconnect battery then put key in ignition and turn on ,this reset all the systems then car would start.took back to Peugeot to have a diagnostic check which came back with no fault codes but earth cable to battery was corroded and possibly need new battery (current battery nearly 3 yrs old).had earth cable replaced but still have problem, went to Halfords to buy replacement battery but had battery checked which came back as "good battery" and had alternator checked aswell which came back as fine.still have problem.......any ideas anyone as it really is starting to turn into a problem child now and had enough!! :( 02 206cc 2.0 se 85,000 miles

Hi phillywilly.
Can you clear up a couple of things as I'm a bit confused?
You say "wont start, when you put the key in the ignition the lights come on the dash and the wiper blades and headlights come on by themselves"

You then say "this reset all the systems then car would start.took back to Peugeot to have a diagnostic check"

So is it running or not, or is the problem now with just the wipers and lights?
Cheers Col.

yes and no, after you have disconnected and reconnected the battery the car will run but after stopping and being left for a while and then trying to start up all the problems listed above happen and the car will turnover but will not start??

Bit of a tricky one. Sounds like a BSI problem or may be related to the comm2000 unit or steering column wiring. Are you using the proper battery disconnection method for the battery? Have you tried BSI reset? (all available on this site)

took back to Peugeot and they said no fault codes found after a diagnostic had been done, said bsi was ok.also said earth cable was corroded and needed a new battery, had earth cable replaced and was going to buy a new battery from Halfords who tested my battery and alternator.both were said to be ok. still a mystery,my spare key will not start the car "immobiliser fault" comes up on dash, but main key will??

Umm... i'd try and get a second opinion ... they rarely even list the right batteries for the CC! Bet that's why most CCs have a 027 battery which is too small ...

If you hold the main key near the ignition and then try and start it with the spare, does that work? Sounds like the spare hasn't been matched to the BSI and is just a blank cut and refitted to a case. Might not even have an immob chip inside.

I would put more credence in a Peugeot dealer than a Halfords employee

the spare key has had a replacement body as one of the buttons was lost on the original (2 button fob) swapped everything over,so has original key.i have dealt with Peugeot a few times before,i had a 206 xsi which I hadn't had long, was found to have misshapen rear tyres by a local garage I use,but Peugeot said it was the FRONTS that were miss shapen.only after threatening to have four brand new tyres put on car and them left with a bill they eventually came back with the same diagnosis as the garage I use (rear shocks seized.....hence misshapen tyres).have read a few posts on here where other owners have paid out a lot on parts which didn't solve problem advised by Peugeot,so you may trust Peugeot, but I certainly don't.

If the Peugeot dealer is that bad, why not take it to the local garage that you mentioned?
My experience of Halfords employees isn't great.

If the battery is going down, you can get a lot of spurious electrical problems. Search this site for the many instances of this. Just because the engine starts doesn't necessarily mean its OK.

Regarding your key, some people have been known to miss the transponder chip out. Is that a possibility? (assuming it worked before you swapped the casing)
