HELP PLEASE!! -Ignition - Integrated Phase Detection!!!!
Hi, I do hope someone can help! My 1600 206cc (2002 Plate) cut out on me the other day, it has been driving fine (had her for over 2 years). It lost power, jumped and spluttered then cut out completely, the engine was cold as I had only travelled approx 1/2 mile, I re-started it with no problem and ticks over perfectly, started off again and the same thing happened. Managed to get home in one piece. One mechanic did a diagnostic check (in my drive) and nothing showed up, suggested it probably is the Coil Pack, we fitted a new one and no difference at all. Another mobile mechanic did a check and it read Ignition - Integrated Phase Detection! and said it needed a camshaft movement sensor! This has not been fitted yet, does anyone think this will solve the problem or have any other suggestions/help etc. I have always had my car serviced regularly, cambelt/clutch/suspension/exhaust etc etc re-newed - Thanks Sal x.

If that's what the diagnostic pointed to, then I'd go with it. Sensors fail over time. Fortunately diagnostic equipment is usually pretty good at identifying which parts are dying. Only problem is it usually costs you to have the diagnosis in the first place, so you an be left feeling you haven't got very far. And if the diagnosis doesn't provide any concrete evidence, and the problem isn't immediately sorted, then I can understand your hesitation.
The coil pack was a perfectly reasonable first stab, but now that it has a definite error code I think you SHOULD be OK with what it tells you.
Only thing is, I didn't realise the 1.6 engine HAD a camshaft movement sensor! However it is a while since I've had to look at one of the engines. Now if it had said crankshaft position sensor, I'd have believed it instantly because those things are notorious for failing on lots of different engines. They get covered in cr@p, pick up lots of metal particles with the internal magnet and can come out looking like a flippin' hedgehog! But hey, if that's what they say, and they're not charging too much, as I said before, go with it. But be ready to with-hold payment if it a second mis-diagnosis doesn't solve your problem. They're supposed to be professionals.

Not sure it has a cam sensor. What coilpack was fitted?
Cheers Col.

PEUGEOT 206 1.6 2000 > ONWARDS CASSETTE IGNITION COIL RAIL PACK 597080 **NEW** , can't tell you anymore than that, bought it on eBay as I did not want to spend a fortune on a diagnostic guess! The seller has sold quite a few and has good feedback! Sal x

Hi Neil, You were spot on, the mobile mechanic fitted a "Crankshaft Position Sensor" and Hey Presto!
she is running perfectly again, there was also a lot of water which had leaked in through a broken seal, also sorted, so touch wood she is okay for a while now! I paid a very fair price considering all the running around he had, so am a happy bunny again. Thanks also "Capncol", for your input, all very much appreciated. All the best to you both Sal xxx
