AUTO WONT CHANGE TO FINAL GEAR UNTIL RESTARTED ONCE WARM

Hi, i have have a 2002 206cc auto, my problem is that the car will not change gears properly whilst cold, if i drive the car for 5 minutes then pull over and restart the car it changes gear perfectly, occassionly it will show "transmission fault" after quite a hard single bang whilst changing gear... any ideas?

Sounds like a sticking solenoid to me. I reckon you need an auto-transmission specialist.

hi, is this solenoid external or internal, could it just be changed or does gearbox need to come off, also any other ideas on what it could be?

Thanks, had a quick look at that but the car doesnt go into limp mode, it will go first second and third but will not change into the final gear until the engine is up to temprature and the engine has been turned off then re started, then it will go 1st 2nd 3rd 4th all ok and will change gears perfect all day long until the car has been left to cool down..... any fiurther ideas appreciated
