How to disconnect roof alarm

Hi,

Greetings from Cairns Queensland Australia.
I have a 2002 206CC . The roof stopped working and we have been told by the Peugeot dealer that the shelf cylinder and hydraulic power unit need replacing at a cost of $5000+au parts only. As the vehicle is only insured for $8,000 will not be having these parts replaced. This means the roof can only be activated manually. Our question is how do we turn off the alarm which sounds every time we drive the vehicle. The Peugeot dealer suggest since we had paid a large amount of money for them to locate the fault we should driver with the radio up very loud.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, but it sounds to me as though the dealer simply can't be ar$ed and so has given you a quick answer then priced themselves out of the job for a quiet life.
Hydraulic failures are not unheard of, but they ARE rare as there is little to break in the hydraulic system - even rarer that 2 components should fail at exactly the same time! Very suspicious.
It's much more often a case that the complex control system with all it's fragile micro-switches gets out of synch and confuses itself, then needs re-setting.
There are fault-finding guides on this site which show you the position of all the switches. I think one of these tells the control unit that the roof is down and so may deactivate the alarm just by triggering it.
Personally I would be getting stubborn about now and investing in a Lexia 3 interface and installing Peugeot Planet 2000 on a laptop - there will be a few hoops to jump through but with the help of a friendly local mechanic (avoid the dealership) you may well be able to get it sorted for just a few hundred dollars.

Thankyou for your assistance. I have since contacted Peugeot Australia and they suggest the alarm sounds because the dealership have not put the roof up correctly and the car thinks the roofs is still down. I will check out the site re the switches.

Peugeot Australia suggest I try myself to put the roof down and back again manually. He also suggest if that doesn't work to take it back to them and insist they fix the alarm noise. Regarding the problem with the roof , I have been given the name of reputable Peugeot Mechanic in Cairns I will contact them in due course. Once again appreciate your time.

That sounds much more like it. The roof switches are telling the ECU that the roof is neither up nor down. And because the system is programmed to not be operable over (I think) 5mph, that is why you're getting the warning.
It could be that the boot lid hasn't latched properly.
Does the warning noise only sound when the roof is down, or up, or both?
And could you describe the circumstances in which the failure first occurred? Did you interrupt the cycle or something?

The first problem was the last time I put the roof down electronically the roof then would not go back up that way. That was the first time I took it to the dealership and they put it up manually for me which took them 1.5 hours, while I waited. When they gave the car back to me that day the alarms sounded, which I thought could be because there was a problem with the roof. I then put it in to be checked and that's when they came back with the huge price tag to fix the problem. When I received my car back it was still making the alarms sound.

Sorry but they sound like a right bunch of monkeys to me. I'm sure it should be a cheap fix, which any decent mechanic or even enthusiastic amateur should be able to help you with. I sincerely hope so - please let us know how it goes.

Have to agree with Enright. It doesn't take 1.5 hours to manually close or open the roof, in fact you could probably put it up a dozen times in 1.5 hrs. Watch the roof video to see for yourself (which is just over 4 mins long so should give you a clue)

Hi, I have just signed up to this site because I'm about to give up with my cc
The gear box and ball joint are being repaired on Friday but my roof also plays up.

I left my car outside my house with the roof down. When I nipped out to put the roof up the usually process happened. Then when the car beeped to say it was complete I noticed the roof/boot lid was still up. We carefully folded the lid back down and did one hook but the other was quite stiff. A friend works at Volkswagen and secured the other hook. Now my car beeps every time I drive it over 5mph.

For now I would like to turn the beep off as I have to pay for the other repairs. I did speak to Peugeot Northampton and all they said was they can plug it into the diagnostics at about £60 an hour (usually totalling 2 hours) but that may not find the fault. I would then also have to pay for them to find a fault manually at the same rate.

I am not a mechanic at all and I'm baffled with the technology in the roof! If anyone could help me at all by explaining how to turn the beep off I would be eternally grateful!

Oh I also found a small link type bit in the boot the night the roof played up. I am reluctant to try the roof manually in case it causes more damage.

Hi and welcome I suspect the part you found in the boot is part of the problem.

Blondperson: if you can get up to Nottingham (without the beeping sending you insane on the way!), I have the proper diagnostic tools, and enough experience in these models to confidently be able to predict at least finding your problem. I usually ask for a nominal fee to cover my time and costs, but I also have a few spares so may be able to fix it too, without it costing you a fortune. PM me if interested.

Enright - oh that would be perfect! I am usually in Notts every other weekend as my partner is there at uni. The noise can easily be blocked out by the radio sorry i tried to pm you but it wouldnt allow it as i am new. Is it possible to message me first so i can reply?
