hi all, i have just joined because the misses has got herself a 206cc 1.6 2002. i must say i was against it at first, as i'm a VAG man at heart lol but i do actually like the car. there are a few things to do but hey the car is over 10yrs old. i'll do my best to answer my questions with the search function but forgive if i repost. so i'm looking forward to picking your brains for advice.
1st question, (no i haven't searched this yet lol)
whats the correct running temp as it went above 90 to 100? i'm used to cars going to 90. gonna flush the coolant and change the stat in the next few days.
thanks.

Re: hi everybody
Welcome to the forum. Our 1.6 206cc has always gone up to nearly 100 degrees then after the thermostat has opened falls back to about 90. As long as it doesn't go into the red you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Don't forget that pressurised cooling systems boil at above 100 degrees centigrade, so at 100 it won't be boiling.
Having said that, at 11 years old, if the car has been serviced properly it should recently have had a new timing belt, pulleys and (best practice says) a new water pump too, and the coolant anti-freeze mix would normally be renewed at the same time too.
You are right about VWs, my Golf 2.0 TDI gets to 90 degrees and stays there rock solid.
My Peugeots (and I have had many) have never done that. The only times I've had a problem with overheating on Peugeots was with a 305 in the 1990's when the thermostatic switch in the radiator failed, thus not switching on the cooling fan. A new switch cured that.
The other time was a 205 that started showing the overheating lamp on high-speed motorway runs. Easing off on the throttle pedal for a few miles would sort that out.

Re: hi everybody
thanks for the input guys. i'm going to get the timing belt, water pump etc done as i'm not sure when they were last done. i nearly always do this on a new car i get as precuation, unless i know the history of it. i noticed today that the o/s engine mount will need doing, so i'm gonna look into it.

O/s engine mount - what can possibly be wrong with it?
