Car Wont Start But Engine Turns Over!!

Hello

I have a 2005 206cc 1.6 - it sounded like it was misfiring when it was idling but then the engine cut out and now i can get it to start again!

It turns over and the fuel pressure is fine - we have changed the coil pack but that made no difference.

Does any one have and ideas or had a similar problem?

I have an airbag fault light and a battery charge fault light that comes on sometimes but the battery is fine.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hi Tanith and welcome.
There are many sensors and components on the engine that could cause this as well as immobiliser issues. As I see it you have 2 choices-

#1- Carry on changing parts willy-nilly until (if) you stumble across the faulty part.
#2- Get the fault codes read and report the codes here where we can point you in the right direction. This would also give you the source of the airbag light (MOT failure)


Personally, I would go with No2.

Good advice. Where are you located Tanith? It's worth putting your town/city in your profile so that you don't have to keep repeating it later. You should be able to find someone reasonably local to you that has "Peugeot Planet 2000" and who can do a diagnostic which will nail the fault. If you were near to me I could do it myself, but failing that can still point you in the right direction.

Not Near Nottingham i'm afraid! I am in Letchworth -Trying to do it as cheaply as possible as i have part exchanged the car for a new now - just need to get it to the garage!

I'm not sure how i would get the codes read if the car wont start as i can't get it to a garage - is this something the AA could do on the roadside? Is it worth calling them out?

Go onto http://www.peugeotforums.com and have a look for Peugeot Planet Map - you're bound to find someone near to you who can help, but you're likely to have to bump up your posts count before you can send them a personal message for help (there's an area of the forum in which you can do this).
Alternatively, just put the same pic in your profile and a general SOS on there and I bet the offers of help will come flooding in!!!

That's what I wondered Tanith, and how do you/they know it's the right one?

The sensor that picks up that the engine is turning over to allow the spark plugs to fire??

I may have that completely wrong but my brother in law is doing it - he is a mechanic for BMW so i'm hoping he knows what he is doing!

Oh right - the crankshaft position sensor. As good a bet as any I guess. May not even need changing - just cleaning. They're magnetic and can pick up iron filings and things which muck-up the signal. Always worth pulling out to check (tell your brother-in-law that it's bolted in next to the clutch slave cylinder in case he doesn't know). But I wouldn't buy another unless you KNOW it's gone faulty - hence the advice for the diagnostic.

Used the car this morning and another warning light came on!

It now says "Air pollution filter fault"

Will it last until Sunday??
