hi im bex from cambs, new here & to my quicksilver

Post by bexsta »

hi all, love the site. Wondered if anyone can help me with some problems on my 206 quicksilver (2003) ??
ive had it 4 months it came with full mot and love it, but 6-8wks ago problems started with noises n squeaks etc , random electrics not working eg indicators also it cut out while driving, then the clutch started going.... phewww!!

so i replaced the bulbs which worked a bit, checked oil n coolant usual bits, checked underneath for signs of lose bits or a hole in exhaust which all looks ok then got clutch replaced last week (£££)...... (oh & 6mts tax paid now too) so thinking everything would settle after clutch fixed but no, the noise's are worse n sound like my car will fall apart especially when i turn corners, everywhere i go its rattling, squecking, clunking & sounds abit bad, then to top it off sunday night i got pulled over by police for a brake light out & when stopped they see my handbrake on n also in gear (or it rolls back slighty) they then informed me faultly handbrake or brakes carry 3 points, a fine & my car seized!!!! then breathalized me(passed) & said car can only b driven home then straight to garage to get fixed or car will flag up & be impounded!!!

crazy!! bad, bad & more bad luck please can someone advice me on what i should do next?? need to do it myself or cheaply as its cost me small fortune so far, i love my car & don't want to give up.

Sounds as if it needs a complete overhaul of suspension, steering and brakes. Also if the cambelt (timing belt) has not been renewed yet then that is due, preferably with all tensioner and idler pulleys and water pump. I bet it'll be overdue for a full service including brake fluid renewal and air-con too.

Sounds as if the previous owner got shot of it knowing that expensive repairs were going to be needed.

Its up to you, either sell it as the previous owner did, or be prepared to dig deep to put it right. If you got it for next to nothing it may be worth doing, if not you may be throwing good money after bad.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi Bexsta. You obviously need to sort the H/brake before you use it again. It may just need adjusting. How many clicks can you get when you pull the lever up?
Do you know someone mechanically minded that can listen to your noises and advise where they are coming from?
If you know what the problem is, you can make a more informed decision on what to do next. It may be something simple like exhaust hangers.
Your electrical problems may be due to an old, tired battery. Search this forum for more info about it.
Cheers Col.
