2001 206 cc gearbox options

Post by Jordanbmx »

Hi all just signed up as my mam has a 206 cc 1.6 petrol.
Her gearbox has just nackered up and we are having trouble finding a replacement. Could anyone tell me if any others fit off the normal 206's?
Thankyou :)

The petrol 1.1, 1.4 and 1.6 engines all use the MA5 gearbox according to Haynes. Don't forget that includes some Citroen's as they share components. I think the only possible difference is some models have a cable and others use hydraulics to operate the clutch.

If the gearbox has to be changed, I'd recommend replacing the clutch as well. You never know how the previous owner drove and to have the clutch fail soon after replacing the box would be a real pain.

Good advice from Gazza. The MA5 is the manual box, but you haven't said if it's auto or manual or the year as there are differences.

Sorry. Didn't see it in title.
MA5 box, cable clutch with speedo drive on the 'box required.
Available in some Citroen Xsaras, berlingos, saxos (later ones) 1.4 & 1.6 Peugeot 206. Try and get one from a car with a TU5JP4 (NFU) engine, as it will have the correct final drive ratio.
Try Enright on here as he is breaking one, although I believe his is the later model with Hydraulic clutch.
Cheers Col.

So a gearbox would have to be from a CC? As we've been told by a garage that it has to be a CC as the setup is different. Found a few 1.1 and 1.4 MA5 boxes on eBay.

If you want to be certain you have the correct final drive, then yes. The set up is no different on other vehicles, but you must get one with cable clutch
