Hello people :D, Coolant.....

Post by alexbillbridgnorth »

Hi guys,
Thought I'd eventually register and try and help as much as I can and get some more help as I'm always using this website. Anywhoo really confused at the moment and would appreciate it if someone could help me.
I have a Peugeot 206 cc 1.6 Allure 53reg with 57,000 miles on the clock. It has a sticker on the side of the engine that it has had a cambelt change so that's all good and gave it a full synthetics service last week.

Though as I was giving it the service I checked my coolant, it's getting a bit grim to be honest and needs changing. I have had a look and found out from this site you just unclamp the hose but then people are talking about bleeding the radiator and all sorts so it's throwing me on what I'm meant to do. If anyone has a guide or even pictures would be ace, that they could put on here to help me out i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks :)
Alex

Please take precautions with hot water to prevent scalding

Turn heater to full hot without fan on. Warm up engine and drop the bottom hose off from the radiator. Take off top hose and reverse flush radiator with garden hose till water is clear (put hose in bottom of rad) You will need to wrap hose pipe with rag or similar to get a seal.
Now put hose pipe up bottom hose and run engine till water comes out clear, leaving cap off the header tank.
Switch off engine, remove hose and allow to drain.
Reconnect all rad hoses & fill with antifreeze / (and preferably De-ionised) water mix. Locate the heater hoses going to bulkhead and slacken the 2 plastic bleed screws until fluid comes out then re tighten. Start engine and warm up until rad fan comes on, switch off, allow to cool and recheck coolant level and adjust as needed.

Note: You don't usually have to bleed air from heater hoses as it normally gets pushed out by the action of water circulation. I included it for your info.
Cheers Col.
