Hi,
Recently my fan belt starting squeaking after it had been raining so i decided to get it changed .
Since i have had it changed the squeaking has got worse and it squeaks constantly and is quite loud.
A few people have passed comment on the Pulleys. Does anyone have any info on what this could be please?
My car has start squeaking too since all of this rain, it soon goes once the car is warmed up. Im considering having a look at the belt condition (not sure when it was last changed? but it has just had a cambelt change) and either adjusting slightly tighter or changing altogether?
Does anyone know of any good "how to" reference on how to change a fan/alternator belt on our little pug's?
If it's squealing/squeaking then it's probably stretched to the point where the auto adjustment of the tensioner has reached its limit.
Do you have a 1.6 or a 2.0?
If it's a 1.6, then it's a spring loaded tensioner with a 13mm bolt in the middle. So all you need is a 13mm spanner to loosen the tension, and the belt slides straight off/on.

Sorry - I didn't make it too clear:
The tensioner is like an idler pulley which presses on the back side of the belt.
Best thing to do is take a snap of the route with your mobile so you've got something to refer to when you come to put the new one back on.
Also beware that to loosen it you may have to turn the bolt clockwise (in fact I think you do).
