Anti pollution fault and engine warning light.

Post by Raverminx »

I've had my 2.0 206cc for a year now and in the last 5 months I've had nothing but problems with the anti pollution fault and engine warning light. At first I thought it was due to rain as that's when it mainly happened. But now the car loses power and misfires, I was flooding it on the motorway the other day and could only get to 50mph!
I've had the Aa test it and they said a po24 fault? No 4 fuel injector. I've had this changed and all good for 30 miles and then same problem back.

I have to admit that I do often let the petrol get low, could it be a build up of sludge causing the issues??
I'm at my wits end, it slugs along and over Christmas it had a new clutch, 4 new tyres and Exhaust manifold (as all broke on me :( )

Please help before the garage take more of my money!!

Oh I've also noticed that the fault will come back on when I fill up with petrol too!

I think you mean P0204 (Injector Circuit Malfunction - Cylinder 4 S2000PM1/2 - Injector control # 4. Open circuit or short to earth.)
I would get the codes re-read, and if it's the same P0204, then it's likely to be a problem with the wiring to that injector. You need someone with a set of *noid lights* which plug in to the injector plugs and flash if they are receiving signals.
If it's a different code, then post it here for further advice.
Cheers Col.

Lol yes that's what I meant, having a blonde moment!! I had it rewired or so the garage said but the other garage said all they did was put new tape round it! These noid lights are they expensive? I'm going to take it back to garage and show them this so they can see the advice and fingers crossed can get the bloody car working properly! It's driving me mad!!

Sorry just re-read what you said, I need someone with a set of noid lights! Oops!

Set of noids are around £20 upwards if you want to have a go yourself.
Here is how they work

I am actually ready for driving my car into a tree/wall/fence/building.

After all the trouble I had with the window gap, the interior light, and pulling to the left when driving, something else happens. Finally got all these fixed under the warranty.

Ive had the car 6 weeks and its been in the garage 4 times. Now waiting at work for the AA. Lost power 3 times this morning while driving to work on the M74 - very very scary thing to happen in rush hour traffic at 60-70mph.

The emissions warning light came on, and has stayed on. I managed to get the car to work, but it conked out completely while I was parking, so I'm not hanging half in, half out of a parking bay. The smell of petrol inside the car made me feel sick so I havent even attempted to go back into it.

I only had a months warranty on the car so I'm absolutely gutted this has happened. Actually feel like crying. I'm such a girl :(

I was told pugs are reliable etc, my car has proved that wrong lol! In the summer when I take the roof down, I can never get the windows to go back up (faulty sensor) but usually after an hour or so it seems it will eventually go back up! It seems my car hates the winter and rain. During the summer I had no problem with the anti pollution fault and the sluggish running. I've got a whole list to take to the garage for them to see why I get the fault. I've tried loads of tips from forums (the ultimate bp petrol did nothing at all other then cost me a fortune £1.49 per litre!)
I've narrowed the fault down to open circuit, fuel injector (already had fitted recently) spark plugs? Cat, etc. being female I don't have a clue how to test this myself so I'm printing everything off so the garage don't bump me!
And yes I have cried over this car and thought about driving it into a wall and pray the air bags work lol!! Only had the thing for a year!

I'm really beginning to wish I never bought this car now.

AA said yesterday that it was a fault with coil pack. The engineer said he 'extended spaces on the spark plugs' to give it enough fire to get it to the garage. Took it to the garage, got a courtesy car etc, and gave them the AA paperwork explaining what fault he found and what temporary measures he took.

Got a call from Evans Halshaw last night saying the only fault they found was that the spacing wasnt right on the spark plugs. When it says in the paperwork it was the AA engineer who did that as a temporary measure. They're on a test drive with my car just now and are going to phone me back.

I'm making a log of all this and am seriously contemplating complaining to Evans Halshaw customer services about these problems. I really dont think they sold me a road worthy car.

Get the fault codes from Evans Halshaw and post them here.
If the MIL light came on the faults will be stored (unless they've already cleared them)
Cheers Col.

Like Capncol says, you need the full fault codes list to make any decisions. The AA will use a generic code reader and I've found these don't always come back with the correct faults on Peugeots as they use their own ecu software.

Loss of power does sound like the coil pack. And this might be a problem with the plugs. There are some coil packs that don't like certain plugs ie NGK ... get hold of a set of Bosch Super 4's and fit them ... do not try and adjust the plug gaps ... they are all preset now so your mechanic was wrong in changing them ...

If you are still having problems and fault codes/EML lights, you need the codes to pinpoint the issue but my bet is the coil pack is failing. Most of the 2.0 packs are the same so it might be worth getting a 2nd hand one and trying (three small header bolts and a connecting/earth wire and it's a push-fit onto the plugs). I got one from 206cc-spares who advertise through ebay (breaker).
