Snapped exhaust under cat

Post by mumblesmartian »

My exhaust has come away from the cat, this is the pipe that runs out of the cat to the exhaust.
There was nothing wrong with the cat before the pipe came away so I am looking for advice.

1
I guess I can take it all off and get it welded.

2
Is there a clamp that will allow me to clamp the pipe back to the cat.

Do you mean like this?

If so you will find the metal is quite thin where it breaks due to corrosion. It can be welded, but as it is so thin it won't last long. You can buy a cat for just over £100. You have to remove it to weld it in anycase, so it's just as easy to replace with new.

I was going to check out how much I'd get for it by weighing it in for scrap, as cats can be quite profitable. Or possibly knock the guts out of it to see if any extra power/economy could be gained from the de-restricted exhaust.
Depends on where the original poster is from. It might not be worth trying to post, but we could maybe come to a deal if he was within collecting distance.

Neil if you do that, you will get anti pollution faults and all sorts coming up.
Cheers Col.

Thanks Col - I wondered if it might muck up the emissions, so to have a definitive answer without having to waste a load of time or a part that I could get good money for is most welcome.
