Drivers seat stuck

Post by haylisluff »

Hi guys,

I have got a problem on my '03 cc. My driver seat is stuck in the full back position on the runners

The mechanism appears fine and releases on the drivers side but the side of the seat closest to the passenger side won't budge on the runners and is stuck firmly...

Because the seat is stuck so far back, we can't get to the bolts to take the seat out...

Has anyone got any experience in this or and any tips to free it, as cannot drive the car with the seat in the position that it is...

Thanks

thanks for the reply, a quick question, is there a locking tab on both runners or is it just on the rail closest to the drivers door,

I only ask as it appears to be stuck on the second rail in as it is!

so in theory if I can poke something up the runner and push it out the back it may work?

thanks again.

From what I could see its only on one side (the outer side of each seat). Will the seat slide forward if you use the handle designed to tilt & slide the seat for the rear passengers to get in/out? When Lisa's broke we were able to slide the seat forward but only back as far as the broken bit in the runner.

When I fixed my wifes, i used something long and flat to pass up the seat runner and a telescopic magnet to attach to the broken bit. The trick is to lift the catch out of the runner so the seat can slide forward. Its fiddly but can be done.

I take it you have looked under the seat to check the mechanism & springs are still attached that would operate the latching mechanism? Look at the passenger side. Have you also checked nothing has fallen down the side of the seat causing it to jam?

If you are anywhere near dunstable I would be happy to have a look and offer my fishing skills to try and remove the offending article.

thanks for the reply shep,it will tilt forward but won't slide at all on the runners either by releasing the seat like I would to let someone in the back or by the release bar at the front!

funnily enough we aren't far from Dunstable,my boyfriend is looking at it tomorrow so hopefully we will get somewhere and we will let you know :)

thanks for your helpful comments! :)

hello guys, I'm her previously mentioned boyfriend.

I managed to fix the problem and wanted to update you all on the issue.

so as mentioned the seat was Jammed in the full back (to accommodate me :p whoops) and would not budge forward, the mechanism worked fine, when the leaver was pulled everything realised, but the back left corner of the seat/ runner was jammed solid. so after a couple of hours of prodding poking and fettling nothing was working. so I resulted to the Clarkson method and used a hammer on the rail and to my joy the seat budged a smudge. so now having the seat forward I undone the rear bolts and then the fronts and took the seat out.
once out it all become clear, in between the runners there are plastic ball bearings and one of these has snapped in half jamming the system solid, running it up and down I got both halfs out and instantly the runner became smooth and operated correctly.

so bewared it could now also be the plastic BB's splitting stopping operation. and a word of advice (obviously) I disconnected the battery as the seat had a airbag but reconnecting this knocked out the remote locking, there's a guide on here that was super easy to do so don't panic like I did.

thanks for all your advise guys

and wish the car luck for her MOT next week :)

Dave
