Wipers stopped working on wife's car today have checked linkage looks ok...any help would be appreciated

I've got a similar problem. Spent this morning trying to dismantle the wiper system.
Interestingly, when all connected, i could hear the motor trying to work, but nothing moved. Once everything was disconnected (wiper arms off and bolts all undone), tried the wipers and the mechanism seemed to move fine.
Reconnected some of it, and the mechanism stopped moving again.
I was originally planning on getting a new wiper assembly from breakers, but it might just need the mechanism freeing up. (It's also seemingly very hard to remove the whole motor and linkage from the engine bay.... I haven't found a way to work it loose yet!)
The wiper arms fit very tightly on the linkage on knurled tapered bolts, which in turn are held in position by large (31-32mm?) nuts. Mine has been off road for a couple of years, hence the long list of problems, as they won't have been used for a while.
I also wondered whether low battery charge might contribute to the problem?
I'll post back if i make any progress with the system!

Flat battery could do that. I take it you didn't have the engine running?

No, i didn't have the engine running.
To be fair they weren't working when i looked at the car, but it's possible that although the engine was running then, the battery was still on the low side.
I guess its likely the mechanism needs freeing too up as it's been off road for so long.
Combination of the two probably.

Just to update for the benefit of the OP.
I got a 2nd hand unit from breakers in the end. Off a regular 1.4 as that was the only one that i could identify the part numbers properly on ebay.
Fitted and works fine. Guess the old set had a weak motor.
