windscreen wiper motor linkage removal. update

Post by mattau »

Morning all,
I was wondering whether anyone has any tips for removing the wiper linkage?
I've read the guides which say that all you need to remove is the air intake pipe, but this still doesn't appear to give enough room. I've spent a couple of days trying everything I can think, but still it refuses to budge!
On the passenger side of engine bay it appears the throttle linkage might be causing a problem but im not sure if removing that is easy or will help!
Its weird as the motor works mostly ok as long as there are no wipers attached. With the wipers back on however, it doesn't seem to want to turn. Is it possible the motor might have burnt out enough to lose strength whilst still working unloaded? I would have thought it was all or nothing.
The other thing is whats best to lubricate the mechanism with? I guess wd40 isn't really lube.
I was going to take the breaker option for another linkage but this is pointless if I can't get the old one out!
Car is 51 plate 1.6 206cc.
Any ideas appreciated!
Tks

Just to update thread In case anyone else wants to do this..
This morning I supported the engine on a jack and undid the driver side engine mount. Lowered engine a few inches and the wiper linkage then had room to wriggle out.
Now I have to hope a new linkage from breakers will work!
