Undoing the lowest pipe on the radiator and catching what come out in a bowl/bucket is the normal way.

It's hard to get it all out but a hose into the header tank and running clean cold water through might get rid of most. (but hurry, hoses are banned in most areas from Sunday! :( ) You may need to reconnect/disconnect the bottom hose a couple of times.

Then refill with a 50/50 mix (I use Halfords plus distilled water but I live in a hard water area so calcium come out of our taps!) or ready mixed coolant ...

... after reconnecting the bottom hose!

Your car is 10 years old djvoodoo and if the timing belt hasn't been renewed already then it is due. If so I would get the timing belt and associated pulleys renewed now, together with the water pump. The coolant has to be drained while that work is undertaken and would be filled with fresh coolant mixture on reassembly. It'll save you doing the same work twice over.

Don't go past the interval for changing the timing belt - if it breaks it will wreck your engine and will cost you thousands in repairs.

I've just had my Golf 2.0 TDI done and it cost me £350. Trouble is it is generally every 4 years on many VW's!

Hi All,

Sorry for replying to an old post, i plan to do a coolant change as soon as the snow disappears. I read on a 206 forum there are 2 bleeding points for removing air. Is this the same with the 206cc?

Thanks,
