Help... stereo loses radio reception after 25-30mins!

Post by dizzyblond »

I'm new to these parts so I hope I'm posting this in the right place - if not, admin/mods, feel free to move it.

My stereo (factory fitted system, Clarion head unit, radio & single CD on a Peugeot 206CC 2.0l, 02 reg) has always been fine until the last week or so. I've noticed that I now lose my radio reception after travelling for about 25-30 mins. (And, no, it's not always on the same journey and that it's just gone out of range!) I can have a perfect signal, then it goes 'staticy' for a minute or so, then it loses all stations and starts to auto-search which picks up nothing but static. It seems to do this both with FM and AM. If the car is then left overnight, for example, I'll have perfect radio reception again when I turn on the next day - but, again, it fades after 25-30 mins. Turning the radio off and on again doesn't simply cure the problem though. The same thing happens even if I'm listening to a CD - I can flip over to the radio after 20 mins and it's fine... go back to CD and flip back to radio again 10 mins later and it's lost all reception.

I can't imagine what could cause this sort of fault. Faulty unit, something getting hot and needing time to cool down, a lose antenna (but why then always work lose after a similar length of time?).....???

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Reluctant to take it to a Peugeot dealer and get fobbed off and ripped off. Might try my local ICE specialists soon. I'm not remotely technical, so the chances of me sorting it myself are slim, but I'd rather have some idea of what it might be before I take it anywhere.

Sounds like the stereo is overheating some how
As the aerial would do it every time
And a earth problem wouldnt really do it after like 30 miles each time
Have u got a spare radio to try

Hi, just getting fed up with this now, I have the same problem, and so does my brother which was quite weird as it was just by chance we were talking about this at Christmas.

He doesn't have a 206 but a different model, (not sure) of Peugeot.

dizzyblond - did you ever get this sorted? If you're still around?

maybe the built in supressor in the unit or could be the signal booster from the bsi (bsi reset might help) only way to be sure is to try another unit

OK, cheers guys, when I get a quiet moment I'll try resetting the BSI.
