help please :O(

Post by xxlj32xx »

I wonder if someone could help me? I have an 05 reg 206cc 2.0 litre car that keeps saying it has an antipollution and/or cat covertor problem and the engine light comes on! This first started in May 11 when it happened the first time all power to the car went as well. I took it back to the place i got it and they replaced the coil pack?!?!

Since then the light/notice of problem has come up a few times but hadn't lost power until yesterday.

Everytime i take it to the garage they can't find a fault and they say it could be a sensor!! After it happened yesterday when the power went i took it to local garage and asked them to change the coil pack..... they have just called to say it is showing no fault and they don't think it needs changing. They have driven it too and said its fine!! mmmm well i am no expert but surely cars shouldnt just lose power???

The light seems to come on more when there has been heavy rain and i also notice that the car shakes when it is in gear but i am not moving (at lights etc). As soon as i get the revs up it is ok. I have heard this is another sign the coil pack is faulty but now i don't know what to think and i am scared to drive it.

anu help would be fab.

thanks

Lisa

Hi Lisa and welcome.
The fault you describe 90% of the time it is the coil pack. As you have eliminated it then here are some things to try
#1... An Italian tune- (Get it warmed up, then drive it like you stole it. Drive it hard) This will help burn off any contaminants in the Cat. Usually works if the car spends a lot of time with short journeys in traffic.

#2... Make sure it has the proper Bosch or Peugeot spark plugs. They don't like NGK's for some reason.

#3...Get the DTC's (fault codes) and report back.
Good luck
Cheers Col.

When requesting help of a technical nature, please give as much detail of the fault as possible along with details of exact model, engine size & type, gearbox, year, mileage, and any relevant work carried out to try to solve the problem to help us help you.
Better still, put the details in your signature.

Another thing to check is your air-filter. Sometimes when these are renewed folk don't get the housing closed fully. If these happens the rain water can get in while the car is being driven and soak the filter element.

If that happens then the housing needs drying out with a dry cloth, fit a new air filter element, and make sure that the top of the housing is refitted properly. Take care not to crack any breather hoses while doing the job as you will get poor running if they leak.

Welcome to the forum Lisa.
