Hi I hope someone can help, bought a peugeot 206 on a 02 plate with a roof that did not open. Thought I got a great deal, now not so sure. when unclipping the side roof catches the roof makes the bong sound. I then pull the open button and all the windows retract and I hear the whirr of the hydraulic motor but no movement and then the car starts to beep.
Thought I can sort that and like a bull in a china shop thought I'll see if the boot lid will open manually however forgot to depressurise the hydraulic system, on opening the boot I then depressurised the system however the brass part on the hydraulic motor totally unscrewed and fell out. Now the boot lid will close too but the catches will not engage to lock the boot.
First I think I may need a new hydraulic pump, how easy are they to fit and also has anyone any ideas on the reason why the roof refuses to open.
Cheers

The pump may have had the depressure valve slightly loose/ may have been low on oil/ or boot catches not releasing due to incorrect adjustment.

Re: Roof Problems !!!!
Sorry the car is a 206 cc, 1997cc, with 67000 miles, first registered in 05-2002.
I screwed the valve back in but is it not connected to a further rod inside the hydraulic pump as on the end of the brass value it looks to me that a piece of steel may have been attached?
When I first opened the boot lid for the roof I disengaged the tabs by pushing them back off the u clip piece of metal that holds the boot lid closed (at 1.37 mins into the 4.08 min video of manual roof operation). The thing that i have notice is the tabs will only now engage when the boot lid is up and refuse to move when to boot lid is closed.
Hope this helps, also you mention low hydraulic oil or incorrect adjustment how do I sort this.

Re: Roof Problems !!!!
Try the easy stuff first. (sounds as if you may have to replace pump first if you can't fix it)
Make sure the de-pressure valve is nipped up. A few roof problems have been down to this being loose so all pressure the pump makes is lost through valve.
Check the oil level in the pump, with low oil the pump has nothing to pump.
To check boot release, make sure pump pressure valve is released and manually operate the rams that operate the boot release cables to make sure they release. If not, tighten the cables slightly until they do. Don't forget to tighten valve when you are done.
Bit late now, but I would only try a manual up/down of the roof once you have tried everything else.

Re: Roof Problems !!!!
I have had another look at this in the daylight and it would appear the system is remaining pressurised as although the brass pressure valve is open the boot lid is being held by the cables at around the 11 o'clock mark. The brass valve can be unscrewed and inside there appears to be a metal plunger however this does not move.

Re: Roof Problems !!!!
Stripped the reservoir off the pump and looked inside to see the metal that I could see is the end of the brass pressure valve, this has clearly broken inside the motor. Therefore as the boot was stuck open a little bit of lateral thinking, I released one of the cables from the motor going to the boot lid ram, this released the pressure in the system and I have been able to return the tabs for the auto roof back to the main U clip that locks the lid to the boot. I have put everything back into place and place the white small u clip from the manual position to the auto position.
Back to main fault I start the engine and keep it running, hand brake on, release the side roof catches, hear the bong sound, pull the roof level up front windows retract followed by the rear windows, once windows down I hear the roof motor running and this runs for around 2 to 3 seconds before the car starts to beep, I assume the ecu is telling the car the boot lid has not been released.
Any Ideas ?????

Re: Roof Problems !!!!
Problem is now sorted and thought I would let everyone know the problem. On speaking with a local garage they described my car and said they had been unable to repair the fault.
The main fault was the hydraulic motor not pushing the fluid in order to extend and retract the roof, however I replaced the motor and refitted the hydraulic lines one at a time in order to get them in what I thought was the correct order. Once checked the boot would raise however roof would not move. After checking switches, manual up down etc, I finally found the problem was at some point someone had diagnosed the hydraulic motor but refitted the hydraulic lines in the wrong order. Thankfully after refitting the lines in the correct order and getting the correct amount of fluid in the system ITS WORKING!!!

wrong order of hydraulic lines refitted really kill you times to diagnose!!!
Luckily you sort it out !!!!
