From one roof problem to another....hellllp

Post by Davieb »

Guys ,
After buying a206 cc last week only to discover the roof wasn't working correctly , all beeps me no bongs but the roof would open and close ok , I discovered that the boot lid locks weren't engaging properly , they almost closed but needed a little press on the corners to finish them off
So today I set about adjusting the cables to pull them down tight enough to engage the locks.
This worked fine and the roof was opening and closing correctly with all the bongs happening in the right places , I went through each cycle about 5 times to make sure.
Now on leaving the car for about half an hour I grabbed my other half to show her all my good work and her roof working perfectly and hey presto the bloody thing won't open at all now :censored: :censored:

On opening the roof latches we get the bong noise , press the button and we just get the alarm bells ringing , no windows dropping or nothing , so what's gone wrong now , is it possible that I've adjusted the cable too much or is it likely to be something else ?

Cheers
Dave

If you listen carefully, the first thing you should hear is the window motors. If it's not trying to do that, then start working your way through.
Start with the blind in place microswitch.

Cheers mate ,
I'll have a listen , I don't understand why it should work and then just stop like that , are these things really that temperamental .
I have checked the blind switch already , that's the first place I looked but the blind was in place .
Do you think it would be anything to do with the cable adjustment I made or do you think that's unlikely ?

Is it worth manually going through the open close cycle or am I just clutching at straws now

You can check the microswitches on the cable operated latches to make sure the latches are moving enough to trip the switches.
I would test everything before trying manual open/close.
Did you check the microswitch for the blind with a meter?

ok , so im not getting any noise from the window motors on trying to open the roof , i get the bong noise on releasing the catches but then nothing else just the alarm noise on pulling the roof switch .

Out of interest are these microswitches linked to a particular fuse and if so is it a possibility that may have gone ?

No. The whole system is fused, so if fuse had blown you would have nothing, not even alarm bong.
Have you tried putting the windows down and then trying roof? Also watch the roof video on the site. It will show you the window overide method.

I have tried putting the windows down and still no joy with the roof .
I now have a multimeter , so can anyone tell me the correct way to test the micro switches please .

I have had a go but not sure if what I've done is correct , I have traced the blind cover switch back the the the connector that sits in the little compartment behind the light cluster , , I put the black diode onto the top of the black wire and the red one in the blue .
I then got a reading on the Meter which was jumping up and down between 3 and 8 (volts I presume) on pressing in the micro switch this reading then dropped to zero .
Have I done this correctly and if so what do those readings mean
Cheers

Cheers mate ,
So am I to assume that the way I tested the switch was wrong , I kept the switch plugged in, switched on the engine and I'd the test as I posted above , the one thing that's confusing me in all this is when I pressed the micro switch down , the reading went to zero , so if what I did was correct , then does the fact it went to zero show that it's working ok ?

Or am I best to just remove the switch completely and test it as in the above video , sorry if I'm making myself sound as thick as pig sh1t here ( I am )
I just want to make sure I do everything correctly so I don't end up buying parts I don't need

Yep. Disconnect completely and test into the switch using the video as a guide.

Thank you sir
One more thing , sorry to be a pain ,
To disconnect the switch , I've noticed there is a yellow clip just below where it connects , does this need to be removed or does it disconnect in another way , I.e it just pulls out or unclips a certain way

The switch has a flying lead with a plug on the end. Disconnect there.

Right then ,
I've tested the boot blind switch and that's working fine,
So just to reiterate , the roof is closed , i open the 2 latches and get the bong noise , on pulling up the roof button , the windows don't drop and the alarm sounds , there's no noise coming from the window motors , the roof doesn't move .
Now if i close the latches, switch off the ignition , switch it back on again, the windows work on there own , so if I drop the windows , unlock the latches , I get the bong noise , pull the roof button and nothing happens , just alarm bells

Where do I test next ?
Cheers

Ok so now I have also tested the boot closed switch(F) and also the 2 upper boot cover locking switches (E & J) and the upper boot cover open switch (G)

Just to make sure I've done this correctly and so my understanding of this is correct :-

switches E & J were showing continuity , on touching the terminals with the multi meter they immediately went to zero , due to the upper boot cover being locked already therefore the micro switches engaged , that's what should happen right ?

Boot closed switch (F) , now there are 4 wires going into this switch , looking at it from above they go black , red , red, blue .

I tested the black with the 1st red and then the second red with the blue , is that correct ?

On testing both of these with the boot open they immediately showed continuity , this then stopped when I pressed in the lever that operates the micro switch simulating that the boot is closed , is that correct ?

Finally the upper boot cover open switch (G) on applying the probes this immediately showed continuity , the upper boot cover is closed and locked , is that correct ?

Thanks
Dave
