I got a red warning light telling me to stop as the car was overheating. I am told that the wiring loom to the cooling fan has coroded and needs replacing. My car is only 5 years old and this seems completely unreasonable. Does anyone know if this is a common problem? Peugeot have offered to reimburse the cost of the Wiring Loom but the labour charge is almost £1400 from my local dealer.
Thanks
Mirella

Re: Wiring problem
I haven't come across it on here before, a search of the forum may indicate if any other owners have had a similar problem. I'm surprised that Peugeot have offered anything to be honest unless, the car is on extended warranty.

I'd be surprised if you need a new loom. The 206 has been known to suffer badly corroded and/or broken wires at relays and it will usually be this. Cheap to repair. See the following posts:

Re: Wiring problem
I think our HDi has had two temp senders .. one I fitted and one fitted by the dealer under warranty. Both times the temp gauge goes to max, but the engine wasn't overheating.

Re: Wiring problem
Hi and thanks for all the advice. I will try to find someone to do the repair rather than replace the loom. Problem is "why can't I trust the dealer"

Re: Wiring problem
I try to do my own repairs and servicing as far as possible. I use the main dealer for buying replacement parts - they are usually competitive on price and I can be confident the parts will fit. Strangely enough their prices are competitive for engine oil too, but I have to tell them the grade for our car because they can get that wrong! If I need to have any work done on the car such as air-con service or brake fluid replacement then I use a local Peugeot indy that I trust. Dealers can get it wrong and seem to have their own sales targets to meet.
