Cam belt on a y reg

Hi all
I've just brought a 2.0litre y reg 206cc it's done 95,000 with one previous owner need abit of help when do you normally change your cam belt

Think it should be at 80000 ... but I'm not sure any belt is good to be left for more than about 5-6 years
max regardless of mileage. I've had a timing belt go and it's not a pretty sight ... engine internals or the bill!

(My Alfa now has a new belt every 36000 or 3 years whichever comes first)

We bought a Y-reg CC with 53K on clock in May 2011 and no record of belts, so I've already changed our in June 2011.

I'd get the belts changed as soon as you can!

Thank you I no someone who works in peugoet as we use to have a normal 206 he said 110,000 normally but was just checking other people's views I think I'm gonna get my one changed sooner weather then later I hope it ain't been done already as it costs a bomb lol

I'd need to double check the handbook, but I'm sure it's 80000 MILES or 10 YEARS which ever comes first ... either way it's over due if it hasn't been changed. I'd have it done now and save all the worry ...

it is exensive, but not as expensive as a new engine or rebuild ... I know, I've got the bills for my Alfa!

I'd get the water pump changed as well. If that goes, it's another belt change!

Replace all the tensioners and idler wheels, not just the belt. When my Alfa went is was one of the tensioners or idler that seized and stripped the belt of the teeth ...


I did ours so it just cost me the parts and a few hours work ... oh and due to the ridiculously small working area a small amount of skin and blood! First twin cam engine I'd done .. I did the HDi a couple of years before. I leave my Alfa to the experts as there are too many special tools ... you can do the Pug's with a few bolts!!

Had a bit of a go at it today and it is now sorted. If you change either of these sensors you have to go through a recalibration sequence.
Re calibrated now revs up.

Anti pollution was the cambelt about to snap EEK! and had jumped 2 teeth on the inlet (suprised it still idled so well)

New belt and retimed cams and all is well.

Car has 84000 on the clock- so don't ignore the cambelt service interval






I now only have the ABS and the roof to fix.

Shall I post how I get on??

It is a y reg so it's over ten years old two years ago and it's done 95 thousand so not sure if it's been done or not that's why I'm asking at what point have others done it

Unless you have documentation to show it being done, or if you are not sure, change it. It's a whole world of hurt if it snaps!

EDIT: Just seen it has one previous owner. Could you ask them if it's been done?

I brought it from a dealer I have the ladies address I will write to her and ask her to email me the answer thankyou I no this is a different question but I sometimes get a flat spot on it loss all revs then it will shoot off do you no what this might be and thanks again

Could be the throttle pedal. They are fly-by-wire and sometimes is they get a faulty segment in the sendor, it will give you this issue. There are other things too that could cause it, but to make sure, get a code reader plugged in.
