I come in peace

Post by johnnyenglish »

Hi To you all
A family friend who thinks I know a lot about cars asked me if I would have a look at a new car she was interested in, a pug 206cc 1.6 2003 model. Well I explained that I was more of a rover man but I would help so today we went along to a local independent dealer who was very helpful and I checked the car over the engine sounded smooth and quiet the electrics all worked and the roof opened and shut impressively, but on the dash display a message appeared saying `ANTI POLLUTION MALFUNCTION` after reading some of the posts on the forum this appears to be a regular problem which may have various components causing this fault. The car has covered 79000 miles and is in quite good condition. So do you think its worth taking on the price is 1800 quid and no history provided.

Thanks Ed.

Hi Jonny English and welcome to the forum.

That is a potentially expensive repair. If it was me, I would get them to sort it out before you pay for the car. It's also due a cam belt at 80K (now) £400ish inc belt, tensioners & waterpump so probably worth a chat about that too. DO NOT DELAY BELT CHANGE. IGNORE AT YOUR PERIL!!

Other than that, make sure roof works properly.
Cheers Col.
