Bike rack
Hello all
I know this has been posted a few times in the past, but not for a while from what I can see. Has anyone had any experience with putting a bike rack on their CC and any advise?
I can get my road bike in the boot but it involves taking both wheels off and it's just a bit of a pain.
There seems to be a couple of racks out there that I can find a mention of being compatible (Saris Sentinel, Peruzzo Venezia, Eckla Porty) but would rather hear from someone who has actually used one!
I struggle to see how the above are massively different to the more basic universal ones but I've never had a bike rack of any description so a bit new to it all.
Cheers

Re: Bike rack
After a bit more reading around on carriers suitable for other convertibles or saloons the Saris Bones kept popping up. And as one appeared locally on ebay for a bargain price I snapped it up and am off to pick it up tonight.
I will let you know how I get on. It seems to be a fairly impressive bit of kit and well regarded in reviews, so fingers crossed it fits and isn't going to wreck either the car or my bike!

Pics of it fitted would be good.

Re: Bike rack
Here's the beast - haven't got it quite right as the arms need to be higher but it was a just quick attempt after picking it up. It seems pretty stable, it has 3 straps on each side compared to a lot that only have 2, my only concern is if it is putting too much strain on the boot lid and therefore the lifting mechanism. I might have a play around to see if with additional straps I can attach elsewhere to spread the load a bit.

Obscures the number plate. Think I'll give that one a miss! I wouldn't risk it with our 206cc.
Fortunately our Golf Estate will carry bikes inside.

Re: Bike rack
Have to agree with Ron. To be legal you would need a trailer board as you need to see lights and plate.
I would go for the type that fit to the luggage rails myself.

Re: Bike rack
My CC has rails that go over the roof and onto the A pillar, could I remove the covers and attach a normal rack for bikes? I was parked beside an older CC the other day and noticed that it didnt have the same as mine?

Re: Bike rack
I think the small rails on yours are there to stop any water flowing into your door when you open it in the rain Dav1ey. I wouldn't want to risk spoiling the roof by removing them,

Re: Bike rack
I wouldn't want to roof mount a rack either. Just another thing to make the roof fail (a great big load wobbling about on top)

Yep, I'll be having to get another number plate! Might take the wheels off too which will prevent anything being in the way of the lights.
Capncol, what one have you seen that fits to the luggage rails?

Re: Bike rack
I didnt realise they were there to stop rain rolling in... thought they were rack grooves haha, glad I didnt pull them off! I have decided I no longer want any sort of bike rack on my beauty! I love my bike but if we need to go anywhere with the bikes, I live near a train station which the bikes will fit in happily lolGrandadMonkey wrote:I think the small rails on yours are there to stop any water flowing into your door when you open it in the rain Dav1ey. Re: Bike rack
I did see that one on my internet travels but it does look a little scary. And works out a fair old amount for the luggage rack and bike rack.Capncol wrote:It's the one Dav1ey posted on here a while back.

I've been been looking into trailer boards, does anyone have any experience with wiring one in with the 206cc?

Re: Bike rack
Hi slightly off topic but has anyone tried getting a fold up bike in the boot of a 206cc?
I might need one for my commute into work?
