Hi all,
I'm new to this site and considering buying a 206cc 2.0 Allure and just wanted to ask a quick question about the roof. I've been told that if for any reason your battery runs flat then this affects the roof, which then doesn't work and you have to take the car to a peugeot retailer and have the computer reset for the roof to work again. Is this true? Is this a problem? Also, (maybe a daft question) would the roof fall under the MOT if faulty?

Hello Ladybrum and welcome to the forum.
Regarding the roof, your info isn't entirely right. You may have problems if you try and operate the roof with a flat battery, but a flat battery by itself won't cause trouble.
The roof isn't part of the MOT test.

the roof isn't part of the mot so would not fail for a faulty roof
if the battery is flat just give it a good charge before trying the roof
if the battery is faulty replace it
allways leave the engine running when opening or closing the roof

I'm only asking because I viewed a car yesterday, everything fab about it (fell in love with it!) but the roof wouldn't work. The garage have said that if Im interested then they will do 12 months mot, 3 months parts & warranty and get the roof problem fixed. What should I be looking out for to make sure it's fixed properly?

The pressure relief valve on the pump may need tightening see here @1.05 into video for location.
If the garage do all they say, then that's a result. Make sure you test the roof after it's fixed. Make sure you also get both keys, the key code card, and service history.

If it's the seller garage that have told you the roof problems are due to the battery being flat I would be very cautious, that sounds like a classic fob off.
As Capncol says, if you go ahead, make sure you test the roof thoroughly before you part with your cash. Roof problems can be sorted out but can be costly if you are unable to diagnose and fix yourself.

Bear in mind that if the car is 8 years old, and/or it has done 80,000 miles, then the timing belt (Cam-belt) is due for renewal if it hasn't already been done. If the belt breaks the results are catastrophic and the engine would be wrecked.
Timing belt & pulley renewal isn't cheap, and it is recommended to renew the water pump at the same time. Budget at least £400 plus VAT for the job to be done.
Roof problems can be a right pain to sort, so any hint of a problem - walk away. Don't waste your money!

Well, got the car and all seems ok with the roof, seems to be working fine. Had the roof up and down that many times last week it was great!
I've also had the cam belt changed, 2 new seals and an alternator belt roller replaced (mileage was on 64,000) and the original cam belt was still on. The only thing I've noticed is that I seem to have a 'tappety' noise when I accelerate sometimes and that it also seems a bit chuggy when started (as though it's going to cut out but never has). Any ideas what this may be?
