My partner's 206CC is suffering from a weird temperature fault. Until the cold weather it was fine , other than the temp gauges, both of them showing only about 70C which seems far too low for a petrol engine. The heater too, seems poor.. slow to heat the car , with low temp output even on max.
The coolant concentration is fine.
Since the ice and snow, the engine starts fine , she drives for about 5 minutes, and then gets an temperature alarm, with the gauges showing high.
There's a smell of hot coolant, and she stops.
After a further five mins, the temperature has returned to its "usual" place, and she is able to finish her 25 journey to work without further problems.
Seem highly likely this is a thermostat problem... As if it's jamming in one position, then not allowing the engine to run at proper temp.
Any thoughts or experiences.
Is changing the stat a difficult job ?
Many thanks
Iain

Re: 206CC weird Overheat
Could be thermostat I suppose but coolant temperature sensors have been known to play up.

the coolant consentration could be fine but make sure it is able to withstand the temps and also check your oil level and maybe do a oil and filters change see if that makes any difference and also makesure your radiator has no blockages and also make sure the fan kicks in as it could have a relay gone etc
