engine immobiliseer fault
Hi, looking to get some assistance with an ongoing issue...any advise / help would be greatly appreciated as I'm quickly running out of ideas http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/posting.p ... =post&f=23#
The car is a 2004, 1.6 206cc petrol, 48k miles and I've had it for 3.5years with no major issues.
Over the last 3 months it has been used less frequently maybe once a week for short journey, 15-20miles. Don't know if that is significant or not.
However, it was used one day last week with no problems and the following day I wanted to remove from the garage..upon trying to start it the error message "Engine Immobilizer Fault" appeared on the dash. It will not start but turns over ok. From what I can glean from various websites and a conversation with a Peugeot technician, this issue is related to the car not seeing the correct key. Is that correct??
I've tried several things;
New battery in keyfob [both keyfobs exhibit the same issue]
Disconnected vehicle battery and reconnected using 3 minute rule and following the BSI reset process at least 6 times
Tried to jumpstart from the Vauxhall Vectra
Flattened the battery and recharged to full
.....all with no luck
The keyfobs all work ok and are synch'd as the central locking will operate correctly
The position is now that the car has gone into "Economy Mode Active" and still will not start. It doesn't display "Engine Immobilizer Fault" anymore but I suspect that it is hidden behind the Economy Mode message. How do you get the car out of Economy Mode Active to get back to my original fault message
I've read various posts that point towards a failed 12v vehicle battery, [It is a FIAMM battery, possibly original] but in my case the battery appears to be ok as it will turn the car over for a least 5mins before it dies. Also would a jumpstart from another car rule that problem out?
Is it possible to get error code messages from the car, and how would I do that?
Any help would be great as I'm trying to avoid having to tow it to the Peugeot dealership..as I've heard horror stories about costs etc once they start work on ECU related problems.
thanks

Re: engine immobiliseer fault
If the car battery is 7 years old it is about due a brand new one isn't it? By replacing that you would at least rule out one very strong possibility, and with a battery that age you are hardly wasting any money. That would very probably cure your problem.
I'd get the right one for the car from a Peugeot main dealer and follow the instructions in the owners handbook when fitting it.
Good luck.

Valid points above.
Sounds like transducer gone out of sync. If new battery doesn't cure it then you will probably need the system recoded.

Re: engine immobiliseer fault
thanks for the info guys....much appreciated.
With New Year, I'll need to wait for the Peugeot dealership to open, but I'll get a battery and fit it and hopefully all will be resolved...
BTW: what do you mean exactly by recoded? Is this a BSI reset to sync the key to the car?
thanks

Re: engine immobiliseer fault
Sort of, but you need the kit to do it.
Cheers Col.

Re: engine immobiliseer fault
latest update...
Used the battery from the Vectra which was the same size/rating and only 4months old.
No difference...did the BSI reset thing several times, still the same.
The car appears to be stuck in this "Economy Mode Active" and will not start although turns over great.
Is there any way to get out of Economy Mode Active and get back to my original fault of "Engine Immobiliser Fault"?
I'd like to be sure that the Engine Immobiliser Fault is still showing so that I can fault find on that one first.
Can a fault code reader be plugged in and would it give any further info. There are no engine management lights showing on the dash
many thanks

Re: engine immobiliseer fault
Update:
New Peugeot battery fitted...no change
Tried the BSI reset thingy several times....no difference
Spoke to Peugeot dealership and they suspect the immobiliser module is faulty...replacement cost £400 ish.
Spoke to one of the techs and he suggested that the issue is between the code being expected by the BSI/ECU and the transponder in the key and they they have got out of sync with each other....is tghis possible.
also does anyone know if the immobilser functionality can be disabled in the ECU?
thanks

If you could disable the imobiliser function, there wouldn't be much point in having it.999ginger wrote:also does anyone know if the immobilser functionality can be disabled in the ECU?
It can be done, but as above, you need the kit to do it and you can't just go to Halfords and buy it otherwise all the tea leaves would be doing it.
Cheers Col.

Re: engine immobiliseer fault
Update:
Had the car tested with Peugeot Planet computer and it says: "Engine ECU has not replied". It appears that the ECU will not communicate with the Peugeot Planet. There is also a message saying "ABS / ESP ECU fault; Absence of comms with engine ECU
I've checked all the fuses in the engine bay fusebox and they appear ok, however I noted that fuse F15 [30A] which from the handbook description was most related to the ECU had no +12v on the feed side of the fuse.
I've had the engine bay fusebox out from its housing to check for any damage, water ingress etc, but it looks ok.
Does anyone know which wire [s] controls the power to the ECU? I'm wondering if the reason the error message regarding engine ECU has not replied is due to not being powered correctly.
thanks

Re: engine immobiliseer fault
Should be F24 to pin C4 on ecu, & F27 Via double relay to pin G2 on ecu

Re: engine immobiliseer fault
Update..
Noticed that the engine management light is not lit on the dash when the ign is on...again this may well be indicative of the ECU not having any power??
Thanks for the pin out, but I need a bit of clarification...
****Should be F24 to pin C4 on ecu, & F27 Via double relay to pin G2 on ecu****
The ECU is a Bosch with x3 multiway connectors. I'm assuming that the are A, B, C with A being nearest the bulkhead and C nearest the headlight.
There are several multiway plugs on the engine fusebox.. Can you confirm which multiway connectors are being referred to on both the fusebox and ECU.
I've tested one wire from the black multiway in the engine fuse box position on the left hand side pin e13 to the ECU connector C pin F2. This appears to be a continuous wire as the wire ID is the same at both ends. At the fusebox end it is +12v at the ECU end it is +2v.....is this significant?
many thanks

Re: engine immobiliseer fault
Will get back to you later as wiring diagrams are at home. The plugs are marked with the pin nos.
Do you need the wire colours or can you work it out from pinouts?

Re: engine immobiliseer fault
Right.
Fuse24 to B4 (not C4 as previously stated) of plug 48V MR (21 wires in plug)
Fuse27 to G2 of plug 32V NR (22 wires)
3rd plug has 14 wires
Can't find list of colour codes at the mo, and it's too cold outside to go and pull plugs on wifes car to look (hope you understand)
Plug pins are all numbered, so you should be fine.
