1st post here so hope someone can help.
2002 1.6 TU5jp4 engine. Car starts and idles fine but won't rev up (like a broken throttle cable)
DTC's read are P0220 & P0229 which are throttle position sensors. I have changed both the throttle body assembly and the pedal. Symptoms and dtc's remain the same. Any ideas? Any connectors or fuses could cause this?
In case it is relevant, the anti pollution failure warning is displayed on the dash.

Re: Car will idle, but not rev up
The anti-pollution fault would appear to indicate that the car has gone into limp home mode, presumably because an accelerator position sensor has failed or has become disconnected.
A generic explanation of Electronic Throttle Control can be found here:

I do not know where the throttle position sensors are on your car and I would have to entrust the car to my local Peugeot independent specialist or main service agency.
Another member may have more "hands on" knowledge than me. If so. let's hope they can make a positive contribution to this thread.

Re: Car will idle, but not rev up
Right.
Had a bit of a go at it today and it is now sorted. If you change either of these sensors you have to go through a recalibration sequence.
Re calibrated now revs up.
Anti pollution was the cambelt about to snap EEK!
and had jumped 2 teeth on the inlet (suprised it still idled so well)
New belt and retimed cams and all is well.
Car has 84000 on the clock- so don't ignore the cambelt service interval

I now only have the ABS and the roof to fix.
Shall I post how I get on??
Cheers Col

Crikey, that was close with the cam-belt!
Interval on the 1.6 is stated to be 100,000 miles or 10 years I believe. Did you change the water pump too or not?
By all means keep us informed of your progress with the ABS and the roof please. It is all interesting stuff and your photos are excellent.

Re: Car will idle, but not rev up
Hmm.
That's interesting. My Autodata says 80K with no time limit stated. Admittedly Autodata 3.18 so mileage may have been revised.
I couldn't beleive how lucky I was for it not to break, and didn't dare start it again once I'd pulled the cam box cover.
Bought the car for my wife, and got it cheap due to the faults (and I thought Mercedes were bad)
ABS DTC's show both rear sensors open circuit. Had a look and it seems someone has changed the rear axle for an earlier one, because the sensors have the earlier plugs on them but the car has the later sockets so they had been left unplugged.
Will be onto that tomorrow.
I think the roof is due to parking brake sensor failure, but will need to check that out.
Also need to strip G/box as reverse sounds like it has a chipped or missing tooth. Luckily Peugeot / Citroen boxes are quite straightforward.
Keep you posted
Col
BTW. have macscan tool if anyone needs codes read Berks area.

Re: Car will idle, but not rev up
You're right about Autodata - for your 1.6 16v engine it states every 80,000 miles under normal conditions.
In view of that, and your experience we'd better play safe in future.
One never stops learning.

Re: Car will idle, but not rev up
Ok. ABS now fixed.
Car had an earlier axle fitted at some time so had to cannibalise a new set of ABS sensors. I cut the plugs off the later style sensors and crimped them to the earlier sensors thus ending up with old style sensors with new style plugs on.
Have posted in the "roof section" the issues I found with the roof.
Just the gearbox now.

Re: Car will idle, but not rev up
Sorry to drag up this old topic but could you give me an indicator as to where the TPS is located? Also, what is the recalibaration process you mention?
Thanks
