Stupid Speedometer

Post by dizzyb555 »

Hello - I've a 2001 206 cc 2litre - the speedo has just started playing up. I went to town today and it was working fine then just dropped to zero - then after about a mile picked right up to the correct speed. On way home it was on zero then when nearly home went upto speed then dropped back to zero and continued to go up and down. Bizarre! I noted the mileage didn't change when it was on zero.

I have made some enquiries and have suggestions such as the speed sensor may have gone. Seen them for sale on ebay.

1. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
2. Does anyone know where the speed sensor is?
3. Any ideas if this could be done without going to the garage?

Any help will be appreciated - rather not get ripped off at the garage -past experience!

Thank you

Hi, I know this might be a bit late, but my 206 did the same thing. It needle wanted to work and would get to about 10kmph then drop again (the taco had died a couple years ago). I was told it would cost about AU$1400 (parts always dear in Australia) to replace the whole thing and then reset the odoemeter.

Well I found a place that repairs instruments so had the speedo and taco done for AU$330. There's a (real) little plastic nub inside the speedo that breaks but it is fixable if that's the cause of the problem, though the odoemeter was still working.

Hope this helps.

Try getting a second hand one through those spare parts garages on the internet. The problem then will be restoring the correct mileage.
