Windows not going up when ive closed the roof??

Post by sunnydelight32 »

Hey guys its been a while since my last request for help as my wee car has been going great!

Until now...

I'm having problems with my windows when i put the roof back on after having it down. The roof closes fine but when I then clip it shut and try to put my windows up it just makes the beeping noise and the windows don't move! There's no problem with the roof going up and down at all, its just the windows. This only happens when I've had the roof down! The windows work fine any other time!

Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated :)

Kelly :)

Mod note: I have moved your post to the roof section Kelly as although it is not the roof itself, the problem only occurs when you've closed the roof. You originally posted in Stuff for sale

Ive had a look for switches but cant see anything that looks like it could be sticking! As daft as this sounds is it easier to see these switches with the roof up or down?

Googled the switches and searches ebay to so ive an idea as to what im looking for.

diagnostic cost me £54 they reset all the mechanicals and the roof configuration..yes me too??worked fine then 2 up n downs later... same problem windows not going back up,so decided rather than take the head lining to bits back to the dealers where its in overnight...they say its the roof switches but did'nt we know that all along ...anyway its another £190 for the pair so here's hoping ...will report on this continuing story.

I Had the same problem a few weeks ago and it was one of the 2 roof switches not operating. I found this out by getting a paper clip and making a little hook,I then closed roof and windows did not operate. So I released one catch and you can feel the operating lever for the micro switch if you put finger in were the hook goes, use the hooked paper clip to operate this lever and try windows. If still windows dont work fasten this catch and repeat on the other catch. This will prove which switch not working, you then can get a small screwdiver and just about get between the bar in roof where the fastening clamp fixes too and the operating lever and bend the lever to give it more movement when roof clamped.
Hope fully this will resolve your problem without expensive pug charges, hope I have made above clear not easy to explain.Another idea could be to try and put tape on hook so when closed gives slightly more movement to micro switch lever,as you may find you only need a fraction more movement in micro switch lever to operate switch.

It is not too difficult to take roof lining out and get to 3 bolts that secure the micro switch, and these can be purchased from one of many scrap dealers breaking 206cc for approx £15. But normally switch ok it is the operating lever to switch that just needs a slight bit more tension so will operate switch.

Hope above some help and not too confusing i live in midlands and if I can assist more drop me a note.

Many thanks Vic but its the wife's car (bought to replace her 206 GTI) and women feel a little insecure as you know, so with the windows not coming up and the risk of this problem re-occurring she wanted the comfort of 12 months parts and labour, new switches and dealer install gives her the peace of mind and me a nag free zone.
This car cost us £1300 with 52000 miles its an SE in black with full body kit wolfrace alloys we fit a stainless exhaust for £195,now stands us at £1750 its black with red/black leather now looks drives brilliant, all being well a few years of trouble free motoring

Thanks i will try those things and see if it helps any. I had a look at 2 of the switches in the boot and put a little wd40 to see if it would loosen them a bit. Jury is out though until we get some more sunshine! When i got into it this morning i had a huge puddle of water in the back! the slight drip i had must have turned into a waterfall with all of the heavy rain last night.

Im now also looking for some advice on re-sealing the roof and what is needed and involved?

The joys!

Kelly :)

After a few days of ups and downs the roof works perfectly, everything aok,the roof catches are distinctly a lot tighter and now when releasing one catch it bleeps something it did intermittently on previous occasions.
So look to the roof switches to cure this particular problem of windows not going up when the roof is back in place, happy motoring Stephen
